1. Don’t use your teeth as tools
🦷Opening packets, bottles or tearing things can chip or crack teeth

2. Don’t brush harder thinking it cleans better
🦷Aggressive brushing can irritate gums and contribute to enamel wear

3. Don’t ignore bleeding gums
🦷Repeated bleeding can be a sign of gum inflammation and shouldn’t simply be accepted as “normal”

4. Don’t put aspirin directly on a painful tooth
🦷It can irritate or burn the gum tissue

5. Don’t wait for a toothache to see a dentist
🦷Some cavities and dental problems can progress before causing noticeable pain

6. Don’t use DIY whitening hacks
🦷Lemon, baking soda and other acidic or abrasive methods can damage teeth and irritate gums

7. Don’t skip the teeth between your teeth
🦷Brushing alone doesn’t effectively clean every interdental surface

8. Don’t ignore a chipped or cracked tooth
🦷Even a small-looking crack can become a bigger problem depending on its depth

9. Don’t treat antibiotics as a painkiller
🦷Dental infections need proper treatment; antibiotics aren’t automatically needed for every toothache

10. Don’t assume your mouth is healthy because nothing hurts
🦷Gum disease, cavities and other problems can be surprisingly quiet in their early stages

No pain doesn’t always mean your wisdom tooth is problem-free 👀

• Some wisdom teeth remain partially trapped under the gum, making them harder to clean
• Their position can increase the risk of decay or gum problems around nearby teeth
• An X-ray helps your dentist assess the tooth’s position and surrounding structures
• Removal isn’t automatically necessary — healthy, functional wisdom teeth can often be monitored
• The decision depends on your individual dental findings, not simply whether the tooth hurts

So if your dentist recommends removal, ask them to show you what they’re seeing on the X-ray 🦷

Loose teeth aren’t always an ageing problem, sometimes the warning signs start much earlier 👀

• Healthy gums should generally not bleed regularly during brushing or flossing
• Persistent bad breath can sometimes be linked to gum disease
• Gum disease can affect the tissues and bone that support your teeth
• Early diagnosis can help prevent progression and protect your natural teeth
• Regular dental check-ups become especially important when bleeding, swelling or gum recession keeps returning

Don’t wait for a tooth to become loose before paying attention to your gums 🦷

Is charcoal toothpaste actually better for your teeth, or is it just better marketing? 🦷

Charcoal toothpaste has become popular because of its claims around whitening and removing stains, but there’s more to consider

• Activated charcoal may help remove some surface stains, making teeth appear temporarily brighter
• It doesn’t bleach the natural colour of your teeth like professional whitening treatments can
• Many charcoal toothpastes don’t contain fluoride, which is important for protecting enamel and preventing cavities
• Some charcoal products can be abrasive, and frequent use may contribute to enamel wear depending on the formulation
• “Natural” doesn’t automatically mean safer or more effective
• For everyday brushing, a fluoride toothpaste with appropriate abrasivity is generally a more evidence-based choice

If you’re considering charcoal toothpaste for whitening, talk to your dentist about options that are safe for your teeth and gums

Would you switch to charcoal toothpaste after knowing this?

“Doctor, mere teeth aise hain. Treatment ka kitna cost aayega?”

This is one of the most common questions orthodontists receive. But a photo of crooked teeth is usually not enough to determine the exact treatment cost.

Two people can have teeth that look similarly crooked, but the underlying problems can be completely different.

One patient may only need simple alignment. Another may have crowding, a bite problem, insufficient space, a jaw relationship issue, or roots that need more careful positioning.

That difference matters because orthodontic treatment is planned according to what is happening beneath and between the teeth, not just what is visible in a photograph.

Depending on the case, treatment may involve simple tooth movement, creating space, extractions, bite correction, or more complex orthodontic mechanics.

The complexity can affect the duration of treatment, number of appointments, type of mechanics required and, ultimately, the overall treatment cost.

That is why an orthodontist may need a clinical examination, X-rays and, when required, digital scans before giving you a proper treatment plan and exact cost.

So if you’re comparing orthodontic treatment costs based only on photos or someone else’s treatment, remember:

Same-looking teeth do not necessarily mean the same orthodontic problem or the same treatment.

If food keeps getting stuck between the same two teeth, repeatedly removing it with a toothpick may only be treating the symptom, not the cause.

Normally, adjacent teeth have a contact point between them. This contact helps prevent food from being repeatedly forced into the space between the teeth during chewing.

When that contact is lost or becomes too open, food can get impacted into the same area every time you eat.

Several things can cause this, including a cavity that has changed the tooth structure, changes in the gums, or a filling or crown that doesn’t recreate the natural contact properly.

The problem isn’t just the food itself.

Repeated food impaction can irritate the gum between the teeth, leading to tenderness, swelling and bleeding. If the underlying cause isn’t corrected, the same cycle can continue and may contribute to more significant gum problems.

This is why constantly using toothpicks isn’t a long-term solution. Floss or an interdental brush can help keep the area clean, but if food is consistently getting trapped in exactly the same spot, the area should be examined by a dentist.

Depending on the cause, treatment may involve treating a cavity, correcting a filling or crown, or restoring the proper contact between the teeth.

So if food keeps getting stuck in one particular place, don’t just keep removing it. Find out why it’s happening.

If you brush only once a day, the timing actually matters.

Your morning brush has an important purpose. Overnight, bacteria and plaque build up in your mouth, which can contribute to bad breath. Brushing in the morning removes this buildup and helps you start the day with a cleaner, fresher mouth.

But the night-time brush is even more important for protecting your teeth.

Throughout the day, food particles and plaque accumulate on your teeth. If you leave them there overnight, bacteria continue to break them down and produce acids. These acids can damage enamel and increase the risk of cavities. Plaque that remains along the gumline can also contribute to gum inflammation and gum disease.

So brushing twice a day isn’t about making your teeth look clean for a few hours. Each brushing session has a purpose.

Morning brushing helps remove the buildup from overnight.

Night brushing removes the plaque and food accumulated throughout the day before you spend several hours sleeping.

And ideally, neither should be skipped.

Two minutes, twice a day, is a small habit that can make a big difference to your long-term oral health.

Your baby doesn’t need to have a full set of teeth before you start brushing.

In fact, the first tooth is your starting point.

As soon as that first tooth appears, it can be exposed to plaque, bacteria and sugars from milk and food. Baby teeth can develop cavities too—and because they help with chewing, speech and maintaining space for permanent teeth, they shouldn’t be treated as “temporary teeth that don’t matter.”

For children under 3, a rice-grain-sized smear of fluoride toothpaste with a soft-bristled toothbrush is generally recommended. Parents should do the brushing or supervise closely.

And there’s another benefit to starting early: you’re not just cleaning the tooth.

You’re teaching your child that brushing is simply part of everyday life.

Don’t wait for all the teeth to arrive. Start with the first one.
