That morning breath isn’t just telling you it’s time to freshen up.
While you sleep, saliva production decreases, and bacteria accumulate in your mouth. Brushing before breakfast helps remove that overnight buildup and coats your teeth with fluoride before your first meal of the day.
Prefer brushing after breakfast? That’s okay too, but timing matters. If breakfast includes acidic foods or drinks like citrus fruits or juice, avoid brushing immediately afterwards. Waiting around 30–60 minutes gives saliva time to help neutralise the acids.
So when there’s a choice between brush → breakfast and breakfast → brush, brushing first is a simple routine worth considering.
