Have you observed your child's newly erupted front tooth has some bumps and is not smooth??
Well these are called as Mamelons and these are absolutely normal findings and do not require any treatment. They usually go away after few years once the tooth is in function

As a parent have you observed in your child the milk tooth has fallen long back but permanent tooth is not erupting?? Or have you observed a swelling over there??

This is called as eruption cyst which is a condition which delays the eruption of permanent tooth.. if the permanent tooth is not coming even after more than 6 months since milk tooth has fallen it is better to show a dentist who can evaluate the cause and help.
In this case a 7 year boy walked into our clinic with a complaint of permanent tooth not coming since last 9 months and a painless swelling . After thorough examination and xray a quick incision procedure was planned and the permanent tooth erupted just 1 month afterwards .

So parents do keep a watch on the time gap between falling of the milk tooth and eruption of permanent tooth.

Why should a supernumerary( extra) tooth to be removed?

Supernumerary teeth are extra teeth that develop in addition to the normal 32 permanent teeth.
They can occur in different areas of the mouth and may not often cause any symptoms initially.
However when an extra tooth leads to food lodgement it can become a concern.
Persistent food accumulation between teeth can increase the risk of decay , gum problems and damage to the adjacent teeth.

In this case a 42 yr old male patient visited us with pain in upper left region. Clinical examination revealed an extra tooth causing food impaction. Once it was removed the adjacent tooth became clearly visible and was found to have extensive decay ultimately requiring root canal treatment.
Thus early diagnosis and timely treatment can help prevent more extensive treatment in future.

Is dental treatment safe if done during pregnancy and immediately after childbirth??
The answer is yes .
Majority treatments can be done safely using due precautions thus relieving of pain and need of painkillers. So if you are pregnant or lactating and having dental pain please do not postpone and immediately see your dentist.

This video is to create awareness of the impact of orthodontic treatment for not just to straighten teeth but to improve overall function and gum health.

A 16 year girl walked into our clinic with the following complains
