You do not choose to be a doctor, you are chosen for the work....
Dentistry is such an amazing, tough but fulfilling profession...
Today was kind of day when I realized, why I do ,what I do .. highest kind of satisfaction in life is to be able to relieve someone's pain...
If you ever had dental issues, you would know that worst kind of dental pain is not from infection, but from sharp pinching ulcers..
Sushma Narula, age 71, with advance stage of Dementia
She cannot eat, speak, or do anything on her own.. she doesn't remember anything...
But she does feel pain .. only thing she can do is cry in pain... People around her try to figure out the source of pain try to get help her... Children being away in far away countries try to visit often, but life doesn't allow much to everyone...
Taking feeds through feeding tubes, hospitalisations and clenching has led to many broken teeth in her mouth..
Her care taker observed deep bleeding ulcer on her tongue and recognised her pain . We tried to give ointments ,but broken tooth, sitting right on top of the ulcer would not budge ..
Uncle arranged for an wheel chair ambulance and brought her to clinic . We decided to do whatever little we can to make her comfortable till her son arrives in few weeks. General anaesthesia was only visible option then.
We tried to take xrays gently and found out a broken tooth with post n core in it .. we gently removed the fragile tooth leaving the root inside and pulled out the pricking post ...
There is no infection to the tooth... She is going to be alright... My team is so efficient, they know by my look what I need and they provide it in seconds...
Feeling very proud n happy...
