🔷Periodontal Splinting🦷
Sometimes teeth become quite loose over the years (because of lost gum tissue, injury, orthodontic treatment or pressure caused by tooth malalignment) without proper periodontal treatment.
♦A technique called Periodontal Splinting attaches loose teeth together, turning them into a single unit that is more stable and stronger than the single teeth by themselves.
🔸The procedure is most commonly performed on the front teeth.
The procedure is to simply attach, or splint, the loose teeth to the adjoining stable teeth.
🔸In this case, patient presented with periodontal disease characterized by sub- gingival plaque formation, gingival inflammation, loss of connective tissue attachment, loss of alveolar bone. As a result teeth eventually exhibited increased teeth mobility.
Treatment -
✅initially oral prophylaxis, root planning and curettage preformed for reduction of inflammation.
✅For reduction in mobility, Periodontal splinting performed as shown in order to immobilize the teeth which is essential for the repair of the periodontal ligaments.
♦Periodontal splinting is a simple and common treatment that has gained popularity due to its effectiveness.
