Every impacted lower wisdom tooth is not the same. When the roots lie close to the Inferior Alveolar Nerve (IAN), careful pre-operative assessment becomes essential to minimize the risk of nerve injury.

In this case, CBCT imaging allowed precise visualization of the relationship between the impacted mandibular third molar and the IAN, helping guide surgical planning and ensure a safer extraction.

🦷 Why is the IAN important?
The IAN supplies sensation to the lower lip, chin, and lower teeth. Injury to this nerve can lead to temporary or, rarely, permanent numbness or altered sensation.
