People often ask - " will cleaning weaken my teeth?" " Will my teeth become loose after cleaning?"

And we want to scream- No ! Never! Never ever!
But obviously we can't so we shan't 🫣🫣

Nevertheless, there are many MYTHS about CLEANING of teeth. And as a specialist, I want people to know :

* Regular cleaning (scaling and polishing) of teeth is mandatory to maintain your oral hygiene.
*It removes millions of bacteria from your mouth, these are the reason for the bad smell, bleeding gums and bad taste in your mouth.
*These are the same bacteria which are often responsible for heart diseases, premature labour- to name a few...
*As our teachers used to teach us- "MOUTH is the MIRROR of the body"... - healthy mouth, healthy body.
*The regularity of cleaning varies from patient to patient, follow your dentist's advice.

Finding canals in max molars can be little tricky, specially the 2nd mesiobuccal canal.

Here are few tips that can help you:

* Mesiobuccal 1 canal ( MB1) - usually present directly under the MB cusp tip.

* Distobuccal canal - present at or near the junction of distobuccal and distopalatal cusps.

* Palatal canal- under the palatal tip .

* Mesiobuccal 2 ( MB2) - draw a line from MB1 to palatal canal and then another line from DB canal dissecting the first line, near the junction of mesiobuccal and mesiopalatal cusps, that's where the canal lies in most of the cases. ( Go watch the video and correlate).

Pro tip: always obturate the canals till the floor or 1mm deeper ( even better). GP should never be left in the pulp chamber- it interferes with the bonding of the post-endo restoration and is the most common cause of the dislodged restoration, leading to failure of crown and eventually RCT.

Endo-crowns or overlays are partial emax crowns to restore endodontically treated teeth.

Advantages-
*The crown preparation is very conservative thus saving the natural tooth structure as much as possible specially enamel.. - as the master himself says- patients' enamel belongs to the patient and not to the drain of your clinic.😁😁
* The margin is much above the gingival margin thus hygiene maintenance is easy and the chances of secondary decay is highly reduced.
* And NO ! They donot debond if bonded effectively.

Pro-tip for occlusion adjustment:
We often observe that the articulating paper is unable to mark crowns effectively while we are adjusting occlusion.
Apply vaseline on to the articulating paper for occlusion check and your ceramic will be marked properly. ( Tip Courtesy: )

Proximal calculus can be a little challenging to remove because of visibility, access and gingival bleeding.
Here are a few pro-tips that will do the trick:

* Always retract the labial/buccal tissue using anything that's available - optra-gate ( we used in the video) or as simple as an intraoral mirror, ask your assistant to hold it- this will provide you the access you need.

* Use a clear intra-oral mirror and place it lingually to reflect light onto the proximal area once you have access ( by following the 1st step)- this will make the proximal area and calculus more visible to you.

* Always use the universal tip first which is a little rounded, broad at the end for gross calculus removal and then the narrow, sharp proximal tip to remove the remaining hard to access calculus.

*Always try to move your scaler tip over the tooth surface rather than hitting the gingiva to avoid unnecessary bleeding.

* Always use as much water as possible to flush away the calculus debris and gingival bleeding.
