Milk Teeth Gone… Permanent Teeth Not Coming?
Create Space. Teeth Will Follow.
Delayed eruption of permanent teeth is a common concern among parents—but it doesn’t always mean something is wrong.
In this case, an 8-year-old child presented with delayed eruption of the upper lateral incisors, even long after the milk teeth had fallen. A detailed clinical and radiographic evaluation revealed space deficiency in the pre-maxillary region, mainly due to inadequate growth.
Instead of waiting or planning braces later, we chose a timely interceptive orthodontic approach.
Using a fan-shaped rapid maxillary expansion appliance, we gently enhanced growth in the upper jaw and created the space needed for eruption.
With proper activation and retention, adequate space was achieved—and the permanent lateral incisors erupted naturally into position.
This is the power of interceptive orthodontics:
✔ Uses a child’s natural growth
✔ Guides erupting teeth
✔ Reduces the need for complex orthodontic treatment later
Early evaluation matters.
The right treatment at the right time can make all the difference.
