What you say before a dental visit can shape your child’s entire experience 🦷✨
Many parents, with the best intentions, talk about pain beforehand — “it won’t hurt” or “don’t be scared.”
But here’s the truth 👇
👉 Mentioning pain (even to reassure) can actually trigger anxiety in children.
👉 It plants fear about something they weren’t even worried about yet.
As a pediatric dentist, I see this all the time — anxious little patients who were already nervous before they even stepped in.
So what can you do instead? 💡
✔️ Keep the conversation simple, positive & neutral
✔️ Read fun, familiar books like Peppa Pig Goes to the Dentist
✔️ Use age-appropriate pretend play (role play dentist visits at home!)
✔️ Focus on “clean, shiny, strong teeth” instead of procedures
Preparation doesn’t mean warning — it means building comfort 🤍
Save this for your child’s next dental visit & share it with a parent who needs this!
