Milk teeth emergencies require immediate action to minimize pain and save the tooth. For a knocked-out tooth, hold it by the crown (top), rinse gently if dirty, and store in milk or saliva while heading to the dentist within an hour. Broken or chipped teeth should be rinsed, followed by cold compresses for swelling.
Common Milk Teeth Emergencies and Actions.
Knocked-out Baby Tooth: Do not reinsert it, as this may damage the permanent tooth underneath. Find the tooth, keep it moist (in milk or saliva), and see a dentist immediately to ensure the whole tooth is gone.
Broken or Chipped Tooth: Gently clean the area with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Save any tooth fragments and visit the dentist.
Severe Toothache or Abscess: Swelling, pain, or a "pimple" on the gums indicates infection. Call a dentist for an urgent appointment; use cold compresses and rinse with saltwater for temporary relief.
Loose Tooth/Tooth Intrusion: If a tooth is pushed back into the gum (intrusion), do not pull it. See a dentist immediately.
Cut or Bitten Tongue/Lip: Apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth, and use an ice pack to reduce swelling. If bleeding persists, seek emergency care.
