🧘‍♀️ International Yoga Day 2026 Celebrated at JSS Dental College & Hospital, Mysuru 🧘‍♂️

JSS Dental College & Hospital, Mysuru, celebrated International Yoga Day 2026 with great enthusiasm under the aegis of the NSS Unit. The event promoted physical fitness, mental well-being, and holistic health among students, faculty, and non-teaching staff.

The yoga session was led by Mr. Maltesh, Certified Meditation Practitioner and Yoga Expert, who guided participants through yoga asanas, pranayama, and meditation techniques.

Dr. Jaishankar H. P., Vice Principal, highlighted the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life for physical, mental, and emotional balance. The programme was graced by Dr. Dhakshaini M. R., Principal.

With active participation from students and staff, the event successfully reinforced the message of healthy living and overall wellness.

🌍 World No To***co Day 2026 🚭

On 31st May 2026, JSS Dental College & Hospital observed World No To***co Day with the theme:

“Unmasking the Appeal – Countering Ni****ne and To***co Addiction.”

The Departments of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Periodontics, Public Health Dentistry, in collaboration with the To***co Control and Cessation Centre (TCC), organized a series of impactful awareness activities to educate the public about the harmful effects of to***co and ni****ne addiction.

🔹 Radio awareness talk through AIR
🔹 Public awareness rally (Jatha) with school students, teachers, and ASHA workers
🔹 Human chain promoting a to***co-free society
🔹 Health education sessions on the health and economic consequences of to***co use
🔹 Distribution of IEC materials, oral health care products, and educational pamphlets

More than 250 participants, including schoolchildren, college students, and members of the public, actively took part in the campaign.

The programme was successfully conducted with the support and guidance of the college administration and department heads, reinforcing our commitment towards creating a healthier, to***co-free future.

🦷⚖️ Seminar on “Dentistry and Law”

The Department of Periodontology successfully organized an insightful seminar on “Dentistry and Law”, delivered by Dr. Sachin Shivanaikar, an expert in Medical Law, Ethics, and Consumer Law.

The seminar was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Dakshaini M. R. and the support of Dr. Suman Basavaraju.

The session covered key topics such as professional ethics, informed consent, dental record maintenance, medico-legal responsibilities, consumer protection laws, negligence, and effective patient communication. Through real-life case discussions and practical examples, participants gained valuable insights into the legal and ethical aspects of modern dental practice.

The program was coordinated by Dr. Aruna, with the support of Dr. Anitha, Dr. Radhika, Dr. Srinivas, and the entire Department of Periodontology.

Faculty, postgraduate, and undergraduate students actively participated, making the seminar a highly enriching academic experience. The interactive Q&A session further enhanced understanding of the legal responsibilities of dental practitioners.

🏆 Proud Moment for JSS Institutions! 🎉

JSS Dental College & Hospital, Mysuru, and JSS Science and Technology University, Mysuru, celebrate a remarkable national achievement as Mr. Kiran N. Nambiar and Mr. Ujjwal Kumar (Final Year BDS students, JSS Dental College & Hospital) along with Mr. M. V. Prathvi Raj (III Year ECE student, JSS STU) have been selected as prestigious BIRAC E-YUVA Fellows under the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), Government of India.

Their innovative interdisciplinary project, “Smart Telemetric Hydro-Storage Orthodontic Appliance Case,” was recognized under the highly competitive E-YUVA program, with the team being selected as one of only five projects under Anna University, Chennai, and among just 60 fellows chosen nationwide.

The project seamlessly integrates dental healthcare, engineering, and telemetric technologies to enhance the storage, monitoring, and management of orthodontic appliances through a smart, patient-centric approach.

The project is mentored by Dr. Nandlal B (JSS Dental College & Hospital), Dr. Rudraswamy S. B, and Mr. Rakesh M. D (Department of ECE, JSS STU), whose guidance and expertise have been instrumental in this achievement.

📚 Faculty Development Programme on Competency-Based Dental Education (CBDE)

The Dental Education Unit, JSS Dental College & Hospital, organized a Faculty Development Programme on “Orientation to Competency-Based Dental Education (CBDE) & Refresher Session on PO, CO, OSCE and OSPE.”

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Devananda D., Deputy Dean (Academics), JSSAHER, and presided over by Dr. Dhakshaini M. R., Principal, along with Dr. H. P. Jaishankar, Vice Principal. The programme was convened by Dr. Sunila B. S., Convener, Dental Education Unit.

The academic sessions commenced with an orientation on CBDE by Dr. Sunila B. S., who shared her expertise gained through more than a decade of involvement in faculty development and institutional educational training initiatives. She highlighted the rationale, principles, and implementation strategies of Competency-Based Dental Education.

Subsequent sessions on Program Outcomes (PO), Course Outcomes (CO), Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), and Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE) were conducted by Dr. Meenakshi S., Dr. Seema Deshmukh, and Dr. Indira M. D. Faculty members actively participated in discussions on curriculum implementation, assessment strategies, and competency-based educational practices.

The programme also featured insightful deliberations led by Dr. Dhakshaini M. R., Prof. Dr. Nandlal B., and Dr. Mahima, Deputy Controller of Examinations, JSSAHER, providing valuable perspectives on contemporary dental education.
