DENTAL CARE TIPS FOR MONSOON SEASON
After a sweltering summer, all of us eagerly wait for the monsoon to arrive, so that the entire weather around us becomes pleasant and creates a mood to celebrate with family and friends. But in our enjoyment we tend to forget, that this season not only brings along the most common diseases such as dengue, malaria and others but also severe dental problems and issues.
Our teeth deserves the same amount of hygiene we would keep our bodies in, as they could also suffer the same consequences as our bodies, if not taken care of.
Especially during this season, sensitivity is a common complaint, for which experts suggest less consumption of steaming hot food and beverages and recommend regular dental hygiene. Some even tend to face pain and trouble in their teeth which may require dental surgeon’s attention.
Let us now highlight some dental tips to follow during monsoons:
1. Check your tooth brush: The foremost role in maintaining dental hygiene is brushing your teeth; hence it is very important that you discard your old tooth brush if the bristles are frayed and opt for a new toothbrush.
2. Follow an oral hygiene routine: Brush your teeth twice a day and if possible use desensitizing toothpaste to manage sensitive teeth, which is not uncommon during monsoons.
3. Clean your tongue: This will help in removing bad breath and the bacterial problems in the mouth.
4. Use a mouthwash: It freshens your breath, prevents plaque build-up, removes loose particles in your mouth and stops cavities from forming.
5. Eat season’s best: Eating healthy seasonal fruits and fresh vegetables will limit your craving to indulge in unhealthy snacking options.
6. Avoid steaming hot food and beverages: During monsoons there is an increased craving for hot tea, coffee, fried foods, and soups, which cause teeth sensitivity causing sharp pain and also leading to tooth and enamel erosion.
7. Control your sugar cravings: Reduce intake of added sugar, preservatives and processed foods, as sugar attracts harmful bacteria that destroy the tooth's enamel, which can cause a cavity in the affected tooth.
8. Visit a dentist: It is always a good idea to get your dental checkup done before, during and after monsoons as prevention is always better than cure.
Lastly, your dental health is of utmost importance always and more so during monsoons hence give it priority among your other priorities.
