Orthodontic treatment does NOT lead to bone loss when the right amount of forces are used.

A lot of people want to know if already damaged jaw (alveolar) bone in adults may get compromised further during orthodontic care. Well, here's radiographic proof that it DOES NOT! Appreciate the bone regeneration between the two teeth? All it takes is the use of right bracket system, optimal forces and proper biomechanics.😀

Children and teens comprise a major subset of patients that I tend to. Over the years however, there has been a huge uptick in the number of adult patients seeking orthodontic care.

While many adults may not come in looking for traditional metal braces as their first line of treatment or may feel that it is too late to get braces on, the good news is that more and more adults now seem convinced that orthodontic treatment is the right way to go with multiple options like clear aligners, ceramic braces and lingual braces to take care of their dental needs!

Crossbite Correction!

A cross-bite is seen in cases where the upper jaw is smaller than the lower jaw. Simply put, cross-bite is the issue where the upper teeth sit inside of lower teeth. If left untreated, crossbites can lead to several issues-- trauma on the gums, headaches and jaw deviation being the most common-- due to the abnormal stress from the biting forces.

Seen here is a case of bilateral posterior/ rear and anterior/ front cross bite corrected with expansion of the upper jaw ( with hyrax expander) followed by treatment with braces.

This one took a while, but was worth the time and effort! 🙂
