🍫 Wait... chocolate isn't the real enemy?!
As a dentist, I hear it all the time: "My child isn’t allowed to eat chocolate because it causes cavities."
But here is the truth that surprises most parents: Chocolate alone isn't the main problem. It actually melts quickly and washes away with saliva much faster than other treats!
The real culprits behind tooth decay are Sugar + Time.
Every time your child snacks on something sugary throughout the day, bacteria in their mouth feed on that sugar and produce acid. That acid attacks their teeth for about 20 minutes. So, grazing on sweets all day means constant acid attacks!
Sticky sweets like gummy bears, sticky candies, and dried fruits are much tougher on teeth because they get stuck in the grooves and stay there for hours.
💡 Quick tips for parents:
1️⃣ Timing is everything: Let them have their sweet treat right after a meal in one go, rather than snacking on it throughout the day.
2️⃣ Rinse it away: Encourage them to rinse their mouth with water right after eating sweets.
3️⃣ Stick to the routine: Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and don't skip those regular check-ups!
