What Happens During a Root Canal Treatment?
Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is a treatment that helps save a tooth when the inside of the tooth becomes infected, inflamed, or badly damaged. Instead of removing the tooth, the dentist removes the infection, cleans the tooth and seals it properly. 🦷✨
What happens during RCT?
1. Check-up & X-ray
First, the dentist examines your tooth and takes an X-ray to see the infection and understand the root canals.
2. Numbing the tooth
Local anaesthesia is given to make the area numb. This helps make the treatment comfortable and reduces pain during the procedure.
3. Removing the infection
A small opening is made in the tooth. The infected or damaged tissue inside is carefully removed.
4. Cleaning & sealing
The root canals are cleaned and disinfected to remove bacteria. They are then shaped and filled with a special material to seal them and help prevent reinfection.
5. Filling or crown
The tooth is restored with a filling. Depending on the condition of the tooth, a dental crown may be recommended to protect it from breaking and restore normal chewing.
A root canal does not mean removing your tooth. It is a tooth-saving treatment that allows you to keep your natural tooth and use it normally again.
