Reading these back still gets me every single time.✨

You don’t go into dentistry expecting people to trust you with the parts of themselves they feel most self-conscious about. But they do. They sit in my chair, open up about their insecurities, and trust me to help them feel more confident in their own smile. And I never take that trust for granted.

SMALL STEP, BIG PROTECTION! 👧🏻🧒🏻

Children’s teeth are more vulnerable to cavities, especially during the eruption of permanent teeth. A professional fluoride application provides an extra layer of protection and helps strengthen the enamel.

What is fluoride application?

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that helps make teeth stronger and more resistant to acid attacks caused by bacteria and sugary foods.

During a professional fluoride application, a concentrated fluoride varnish/gel is carefully applied to the teeth. It works locally on the tooth surface and helps with remineralisation of early enamel changes.

✨ Why is it important for kids?
✔️ Prevents dental cavities
Fluoride strengthens enamel and makes it more resistant to decay.
✔️ Strengthens newly erupted permanent teeth
Newly erupted teeth are particularly susceptible to caries, making preventive fluoride application especially useful.

Fluoride can help reverse or arrest the early stages of tooth demineralisation before a cavity forms.

Even with good brushing, some children may be at higher risk of cavities. Professional fluoride treatment gives their teeth an additional preventive boost.

👶 Who may benefit from fluoride application?

Fluoride application may be particularly beneficial for children who:

🪥 Have difficulty maintaining effective brushing
🦷 Have newly erupted permanent teeth
🦷 Have orthodontic appliances such as braces
💧 Have limited fluoride exposure

🗓️ How often should it be done?
The frequency depends on your child’s age, oral hygiene, fluoride exposure and individual caries risk.
For some children, fluoride varnish may be recommended 2–4 times a year, while others may need it less frequently. Your child’s dentist can determine the appropriate schedule after assessing their cavity risk.

Self-ligating braces use a built-in clip mechanism instead of traditional elastic ties to hold the archwire in place. This can reduce friction between the wire and bracket, allowing teeth to move more efficiently and making appointments quicker and more comfortable.

While treatment time depends on the complexity of each case, self-ligating braces can offer more efficient tooth movement and, in selected cases, may shorten overall treatment time compared with conventional braces.

Invisalign® Mandibular Advancement with Occlusal Blocks: correcting more than just the teeth. 🦷✨

In growing patients with certain Class II malocclusions, the discrepancy may not be limited to the position of the teeth. The lower jaw may be positioned relatively behind the upper jaw, creating an increased overjet and a Class II bite.

Here at Dr. Mikisha Shetty’s OrthoVision Dental Care, we use Invisalign® Mandibular Advancement that is designed to address this problem by combining clear aligner therapy with mandibular advancement features.

The aligners incorporate specially designed occlusal blocks/precision wings. When the patient bites down, these features guide the mandible into a more forward position. This helps create a therapeutic mandibular posture while the aligners simultaneously apply controlled forces to move and align the teeth.

What does the treatment aim to achieve?❓
• Mandibular advancement in appropriately selected growing patients
• Correction of Class II molar and canine relationships
• Reduction of increased overjet
• Improvement of the sagittal jaw relationship
• Simultaneous alignment and leveling of the dental arches
• Improved functional relationship between the upper and lower teeth

One of the advantages of this approach is that orthopedic/functional correction and tooth movement can be incorporated into the same digitally planned treatment sequence, rather than treating the dental alignment and sagittal correction as completely separate stages.
