Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery a unique and dynamic speciality, treating a spectrum of disorders of the head and neck , serving as a bridge between dental and medical fraternity.A speciality born out of the world wars ,where surgeons like Varastad Kazanjian,Harold Gilles,Robert Ivy whose seminal work lead to the recognition and blooming of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.James Garretson,Simon Hullihen leading lights of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the earler century.Later pioneers like Hugo Obwegeser, Maxime Champy,Chalmers Lyons and innumerable surgeons whose work lead to the flourishing of the speciality.
The Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI)was founded in 1969 by Drs MSN Ginwalla,C K Dhanashekaran,C.G Raju,K Ramachandran, S S Khera and A P Chitre .The Association carries out exemplary activities to foment the scientific spirit .The AOMSI today is spearheading the speciality in a new direction,with enormous enthusiasm and determination.Today we celebrate this speciality.
