ধরে নিন আপনার পাঁচ বছরের ছোট্ট মেয়েটির হঠাৎ ডায়রিয়া হল আর তাকে হাসপাতালে একদিন রেখে স‍্যালাইন দিতে হল। মেয়ে সুস্থ হয়ে বাড়ি ফেরার বছর দেড়েক বাদে আপনি জানতে পারলেন আপনার মেয়ের হেপাটাইটিস সি এর সংক্রমণ হয়েছে এবং তা টার্ণ নিয়েছে প্রাণঘাতী লিভার ক‍্যান্সারে। আপনি পরিষ্কার বুঝতে পারলেন হাসপাতালে রেখে স‍্যালাইন দেওয়ার সময় ব‍্যবহৃত স‍্যালাইনের বোতল কিংবা ইঞ্জেকশনের সিরিঞ্জ ইত্যাদি থেকেই এই সংক্রমণ অথচ কিছুই প্রমাণ করতে পারলেন না।
বলুন তো ঠিক কী দোষ ছিল আপনার ছোট্ট মেয়েটির! অথচ সে এক বৃহৎ দুর্নীতি‌চক্রের বলি হল। ডাক্তার যখন আপনার মেয়ের স‍্যালাইন চালু করেছিলেন তখন কি একবারও জিজ্ঞেস করেছিলেন আপনি ঠিক কোন রাজনৈতিক দলের সমর্থক? আপনার যে ক্ষতি হল তা কি কোনো রাজনৈতিক রঙ দেখে হল? শাসক দলের সমর্থক বাবার হাহাকার কি বিরোধী দলের সমর্থক বাবার হাহাকার থেকে পৃথক হয়?
কিংবা ধরুন হাসপাতালে আপনার মৃত্যু‌পথযাত্রী মাকে ভর্তি করার পর যখন তাঁকে আর ফিরিয়ে আনতে পারলেন না, পাড়া প্রতিবেশী, আত্মীয় স্বজন সবাই মিলে আলোচনা‌য় বসল, “কিচ্ছু চিকিৎসা হয়নি, এই কদিন স্রেফ ফেলে রেখে দিয়েছে”, তখনই হাসপাতালে‌র কাগজপত্র থেকে আপনি জানতে পারলেন আপনার মাকে সব কয়টি জীবন‌দায়ী ওষুধ‌ই দেওয়া হয়েছিল কিন্তু ওষুধে কোনো রেসপন্স পাওয়া যায়নি; হয়ত সেই ওষুধ‌গুলো জাল ছিল! তখন কী করবেন আপনি? প্রাইভেট নার্সিং‌হোমে যাবেন? হয়ত গেলেন, উচ্চ ডিগ্রি‌ধারী কোনো চিকিৎসকের উপর ভরসাও করলেন। কিন্তু জানতেই পারলেন না উনি আসলে পয়সা দিয়ে মার্কসিট কেনা সেই চিকিৎসক যিনি কিডনির সমস্যা‌কে ডিটেক্ট করেছিলেন থ‍্যালাসেমিয়া বলে! তখন একবারও কি আপনার মনে হবে না, সমস্ত জেনে বুঝে‌ও আপনি চোখ বুজে ছিলেন একদিন? দলীয় আনুগত্যে প্রতিবাদ তো করেন‌ইনি বরং সকলের সব প্রতিবাদ থামিয়ে দিয়ে দুর্নীতি‌কে বজায় রাখতে সাহায্য করেছিলেন? আপনার কি মনে হবে না, আপনি এই ব‍্যবস্থা‌কে মেনে নিয়ে আসলে দুর্নীতি‌র বিরুদ্ধে জুনিয়র ডাক্তার‌দের আন্দোলন কিংবা প্রতিবাদকে থামিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন। কেউ “বিচার চাই” বলে আওয়াজ তুললে তাতে রাজনৈতিক স্বার্থ খুঁজে নিয়ে মিথ্যা রঙ মাখানো‌য় সচেষ্ট ছিলেন? আপনার সেদিনের সেই যন্ত্রণা আর আফশোস কি আপনার রাজনৈতিক সমর্থনের ওপর নির্ভর করে কম-বেশি হবে? এমন কোনো গ‍্যারান্টি আছে কি যে জাল ওষুধে ছাওয়া সরকারি হাসপাতালে‌র এই বিপুল দুর্নীতি‌তে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হবেন কেবল বিরোধী রাজনৈতিক দলের লোকেরাই?
হতে পারে সমস্ত বুঝেও প্রকাশ‍্যে আন্দোলনে আপনি অংশ নিতে পারছেন না। হতেই পারে, আপনার দল আপনার আবেগ, তাই আপনি সেটা চাইছেন‌ও না। বেশ তো, বাইরে সমালোচনার দরকার নেই, দলের অন্দরে প্রশ্ন তুলুন, সাধারণ পার্টি কর্মী হিসেবে আপনার কিংবা আপনার পরিবারের নিরাপত্তা কোথায়? এই জাল ওষুধ যে একদিন আপনার কিংবা আপনার প্রিয়জনের শরীরে প্রয়োগ করা হবে না কখনও, সেই নিশ্চয়তা কে দেবে? সেদিন কার কাছে বিচার চাইবেন? মাঠে ঘাটে নেমে ঘাম-রক্ত-আবেগ দিয়ে যাঁর কিংবা যাঁদের চেয়ার রক্ষা করছেন তিনি তো আপনার নামটুকু‌ও জানেন না; আপনার মত সাধারণ পার্টিকর্মীকে কী ভাবে তিনি সাহায্য করবেন? আপনার মৃত প্রিয়জনকে তিনি ফিরিয়ে দিতে পারবেন কি?
অন‍্যের কথা ভাবতে হবে না, চোখ বুজে শুধু নিজের ভয়াবহ ভবিষ্যতে‌র কথা ভাবুন, দেখবেন শিউরে উঠবেন!
এই বিরাট জাল ওষুধ চক্র, হাসপাতাল বর্জ্যের পুনর্ব‍্যবহার চক্র, সরকারি হাসপাতাল থেকে প্রাইভেট নার্সিং হোম, শহর থেকে গ্রাম, ছেয়ে ফেলেছে সর্বত্র! পালাবেন কোথায়?
জানি এই পর্যন্ত পড়ে অনেকেই আগের আমলের সঙ্গে তুলনা টেনে ভুরি ভুরি উদাহরণ দিয়ে প্রমাণ করে দেবেন “বদলা নয় বদল চাই” নিছকই মিথ্যা প্রতিশ্রুতি ছিল। আসলে বদলায়‌নি কিছুই। অথবা পশ্চিমবঙ্গের বাইরে ঘটে যাওয়া অন‍্যান‍্য নানাবিধ অন‍্যায়ের দৃষ্টান্ত উপস্থাপিত করবেন।
কিন্তু আমি সাধারণ মানুষ, রাজ‍্যের বাইরে, দেশের বাইরে কী হচ্ছে জেনে আমি কী করব!আমাকে তো চিকিৎসার জন্য ভর্তি হতে হবে বাড়ির পাশের চিকিৎসা কেন্দ্র‌টিতে‌ই! সেটিকে দুর্নীতি‌মুক্ত করাই কি আমার সবচেয়ে বড় প্রায়োরিটি নয়?
আজকের আন্দোলন‌কারী জুনিয়র ডাক্তারেরা চোখের সামনে এইসব ঘৃণ্য কাজ দেখে চলেছে বছরের পর বছর। ওরা তাই পথে নেমেছে আজ। বিশ্বাস করুন এরা কেউ শাসক হ‌ওয়ার লড়াইতে নামে‌নি, চেয়ারের লোভে নামেনি। ভালোবেসে ডাক্তারি পড়েছে এতগুলো বছর। বাকি জীবন এরা রাজনীতি‌তে নয় বরং নিজেদের পেশাতেই থাকতে চায়। শুধু এদের চোখের সামনে বছরের পর বছর ধরে ঘটে চলা এইসব দুর্নীতির অবসান চায় এরা। এদের লড়াই বড় কঠিন লড়াই। সংবাদ মাধ্যম সূত্রে প্রকাশ সম্ভবত সমস্ত তথ্য প্রমাণ লোপাট করে দেওয়া হয়েছে নিপুণ অভিজ্ঞ হাতে; তার উপরে ভারতবর্ষের একুশ জন প্রথিতযশা ক্রিমিনাল ল-ইয়ার এই বড় চক্র‌কে আড়াল করতে নিযুক্ত। এবার আমরা সাধারণ মানুষ‌ও যদি রাজনৈতিক আবেগের বশে “সব‌ই বিরোধী‌দের চক্রান্ত” বলে চোখ বুজে বসে থাকি, আমরা বাঁচব তো?
তাই রাস্তায় বের হয়ে প্রতিবাদ করুন। না পারলে ঘরে থেকে প্রতিবাদে অংশ নিন আপনার নিজের মত করে। আর তাও যদি না পারেন, অন্তত চুপ করে থাকুন; কারণ ওরা আসলে আপনার লড়াইটাই লড়ছে।

INSTRUCTIONS TO PATIENTS

1. All requests for physical appointments will be first screened by the doctors over telephone. Only those designated by the doctors as “emergency” & "essential" will be called as we are working on a restricted schedule.

2. Patients are requested to comply with the following while coming to the clinic:
a) Wear a mask without valve at all times. Patients reporting without a valve-less mask will be denied appointment.
b) Keep your hairs tidy. For females, please tie your hair neatly. Head caps may need to be worn by some as determined by the doctors. Avoid any excess ornaments and do not put any nail paints, make-ups, lipsticks or foundations.
c) All patients with the exception of pediatric, geriatric and differently abled, must visit the clinic alone. Any accompanying person may wait outside the clinic premises. The above exceptional categories may be accompanied by only 1 (one) person only.

3. Upon arrival all patients must undergo compulsory Thermal screening and Pulse-Oximetry screening to determine their body temperature and oxygen saturation.
Any deviation from normal values will immediately disqualify the patient from any confirmed appointment. We seek your complete cooperation for this.

4. Patients will be asked to fill up a questioner and a give consent on a disclaimer statement. Both these are important documents before proceeding for appointment.

5. Patients should not take out their masks anytime before sitting on the dental chair. All accompanying persons should wait outside the operatory inside the patient hold area with their masks on their face at all times.

6. Patients are requested to keep all their belongings like purse, spectacles, watches and their personal mask with them and not keep anything on the consultation table or anywhere else inside the operatory.

7. A compulsory gap of 20 minutes will be kept between 2 patients to ensure that all hygiene standards are complied with before the next patient is called in. You are requested to wait patiently till your turn.

8. We will prefer to issue digital prescriptions to minimize handling of papers and pens.

9. Due to the extraordinary nature of the new virus, additional disposable Personal Protective Equipment will be used for both Doctors and Assistants. The cost for this will be added to patient’s treatment/consultation charges & will reflect as COVID-19 Protection Package in your bill.

10. We will prefer to receive digital/electronic/card payments over cash. If at all cash is rendered please tender exact amount as no return is possible. Please cooperate with the staff at the reception and follow his/her instructions.

11. Do not carry any medical files with you. Any medical history, reports etc. that you feel should be shown to the doctor-please take a snapshot in your mobile phone and carry.

12. If you have been asked to undergo a COVID diagnostic test (RTPCR) before reporting for a surgery, please ensure that you keep yourself in strict isolation at home from the moment your sample is collected till the time you reach the clinic.

13. Please understand that we are working under extraordinary conditions and will not be able to discharge all kinds of treatments at this time. We will strictly follow the guidelines issued by WHO, DCI, IDA and ICMR to limit our treatments to a chosen few.

All these measures are carefully adopted to ensure maximum compliance with the hygiene protocols advised by national & international authorities in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. They are to ensure maximum safety to our patients, staff and doctors. We appeal to all our esteemed patrons to kindly co-operate with our team and ensure that we can discharge our duties to the best of our abilities.
