1. **Space Constraints:** Primary teeth are meant to be replaced by permanent teeth as the child grows. If a primary tooth doesn’t fall out when expected, the permanent tooth can push against it or come in behind it, causing misalignment or crowding.

2. **Improper Eruption:** Permanent teeth might erupt in an incorrect position if they have to navigate around retained primary teeth. This misalignment can disrupt the natural alignment of the permanent teeth.
