The Successful Outcome of DMLS(Direct Metal Laser Sintering) Crown for a single tooth rehabilitation, considering aesthetics and function. (Non- Surgical approach)
Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) represents a significant leap in dental technology, moving away from traditional "lost-wax" casting toward a high-precision, digital additive manufacturing process.
A DMLS crown is a dental restoration created using a 3D printing technology that builds the crown layer-by-layer from a fine metal powder. Instead of milling a block of metal or casting molten alloy into a mold, a high-powered fiber laser fuses metal particles together based on a digital 3D model.
Most DMLS crowns use Cobalt-Chrome (Co-Cr) alloys, which are biocompatible, nickel-free, and highly resistant to corrosion.
Superior Marginal Fit: Because the process is digital, the "seating" of the crown is incredibly accurate. It eliminates the human error and material shrinkage often associated with traditional wax casting.
High Strength: DMLS crowns possess excellent mechanical properties and bond strength, making them ideal for thin-walled restorations or long-span bridges that need to withstand heavy biting forces.
Better Porcelain Bonding: The laser sintering process creates a slightly textured surface at a microscopic level, which provides a superior mechanical bond for the ceramic/porcelain layer baked on top.
Biocompatibility: Being 100% nickel and beryllium-free, these crowns are a safe choice for patients with base-metal sensitivities.
