🇮🇳HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY 🇮🇳
On this Independence Day, while we celebrate the freedom of our nation, I believe we should also reflect on what independence truly means in our profession.
As orthodontists, our professional identity should never be defined by the appliance, aligner, bracket or treatment system we use.
A profession is built on knowledge, diagnosis, clinical judgement and responsibility—not on the brand of appliance we use.
We are not merely providers of a treatment system.
We are clinicians entrusted with another human being’s health, function, facial aesthetics and well-being.
Our independence lies in our ability to:
🔹 Diagnose independently
🔹 Think critically and scientifically
🔹 Explain honestly
🔹 Choose the treatment that is genuinely best for the patient
🔹 Remain guided by evidence and clinical judgement rather than commercial influence
Technology will continue to evolve. New systems, new appliances and new companies will continue to emerge.
But the orthodontist must remain at the centre of the decision-making process.
Let us ensure that our identity remains greater than any product, and that our commitment to our patients remains stronger than any commercial influence.
On this Independence Day, let us celebrate not only the freedom of our nation, but also the freedom to think, the freedom to choose and the freedom to practise orthodontics ethically and responsibly.
🇮🇳 Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Orthodontists across India.
May we remain independent in thought, uncompromising in ethics, and united in protecting the dignity of our profession and the interests of our patients.
