What is General Anesthesia and why does my child need it?

General anesthesia is a form of pharmacologic behavior management technique in which a child is put into deep sleep during the appointment. It allows the dentist to complete dental treatments safely and effectively. Sometimes, general anesthesia is necessary when It is most commonly used in treating children who need extensive dental treatments, and are anxious, too young to cooperate, and fearful in a dental setting. It is also used for the safe delivery of dental treatment in children and adults with severe physical or mental handicaps, intellectual disability, or behavioral and communication deficits. Extensive dental treatments may include several teeth to be treated at the same time, including multiple root canals, crowns, teeth extraction(removal), placement of dental implants, multiple teeth fillings, etc.

IN CHILD DENTISTRY

Indications

Following pulp therapy
Multisurface caries restorations
Patients at high risk of caries
Deciduous teeth with developmental defects, such as amelogenesis imperfecta, dentinogenesis imperfecta, enamel hypoplasia
Teeth with extensive wear
Where it is likely that the restoration will fail, e.g., proximal box formed is extended beyond the anatomic line angles.
Fractured teeth
Abutment for space maintainer
Patients who are unlikely to attend follow up appointments

Contraindications

Primary teeth that exhibit more than a half of root resorption
Primary tooth approaching exfoliation (6 to 12 months)
The tooth is with excessive mobility
Patients with nickel allergies and sensitivity
Inability to fit the crown due to lack of cooperation by the patient

Hello guys, just another example of focusing on your behavior management skills and modification skill... A basic pediatric dentist skill to overcome fear and phobia of child..
This child had met multiple dentist and all recommended general anesthesia for this patient... And here it is no GA no Hand over mouth or any restraining just simple talking and here are the results....
In just two appointments the treatment is complete without any error...

This case was performed 6 months ago but patient was going to Canada and thus follow up pics were not present as I waited to get pics when they return to India but it appears it will take time for them.

(wo 74 ki prep me...mai thoda bhavnao me beh gaya tha 🤣, so sorry for buccal laceration)

An Optical illusion Case:

As name suggest
Patient came with the chief complain of spacing in upper front TWO teeth as appears like a good mid line spacing...

BUT: as a dentist if you know your basics to solve the mystery you have to uncover every aspect of case that can lead you with solving the mystery of it..

In present case:
There was Spacing, Proclination and high demand of correction of smile..

And patient had no idea about the spacing present in front tooth as from canine to canine... "A perfect illusion present as only spacing in front TWO tooth. "

And therefore treatment performed was

1) Selective prepration followed by tempotization.

2) Digital smile designing with tempotization.

3) Final smile transformation with 1 week follow up.. As long follow up with respective results will be shared in future.
