New research from NYU Langone Health has established a strong link between specific bacteria and fungi in the mouth and a significantly higher risk of developing pancreatic cancer, one of the deadliest forms of the disease.

The study, published in JAMA Oncology, identified 27 types of microbial species in the oral microbiome—including those linked to gum disease and the Candida fungus—that collectively were associated with a 3.5-fold (or 350%) increased risk of developing pancreatic cancer.

Researchers created a microbial risk score based on the abundance and effect of these species, suggesting that oral profiling could serve as a new, non-invasive biomarker for identifying high-risk individuals. Given that an estimated 67,440 Americans will be diagnosed and about 51,980 will die from pancreatic cancer in 2025, the findings emphasize the critical role of maintaining good oral hygiene—including regular brushing, flossing, and dental care—as a modifiable factor for cancer prevention. The study established a correlation, and further research is needed to determine a direct cause-and-effect mechanism.

ALWAYS USE SOFT TOOTHBRUSH 🪥

Benefits of soft-bristled toothbrushes:-

1. Gentle on Gums and Teeth:-

Soft bristles are less likely to cause gum recession, bleeding, or irritation, making them ideal for individuals with sensitive teeth or gums.

2. Effective Plaque Removal:

Despite their gentleness, soft bristles can still effectively remove plaque and bacteria from teeth, contributing to overall oral health.
Recommended by Dentists:
The American Dental Association (ADA) and most dental professionals recommend soft-bristle toothbrushes for most individuals, emphasizing the importance of gentle yet effective cleaning.

3. Reduced Risk of Abrasion:-

Hard or medium bristles can wear away tooth enamel and cause more damage to gums, especially with excessive pressure or overzealous brushing.

4. Adaptable for All Ages:-

Soft-bristled toothbrushes are suitable for both children and adults, ensuring a comfortable and effective brushing experience for everyone.

5. Ideal for Sensitive Teeth:-

If you have sensitive teeth or gums, a soft-bristled toothbrush can help minimize discomfort and prevent further damage.

6. Effective Plaque Removal:

Soft bristles can effectively reach hard-to-clean areas and remove plaque and bacteria.
Can help remove stains and polish teeth:
Soft bristles can help remove stains and polish teeth, making them look brighter and whiter.
