this 23 year old patient was moving to Canada in 2 weeks and he wanted to address any dental issues for monetary reasons. He needed multiple class 1 cavity restorations. His #18 wisdom tooth was also removed. he had a huge tongue, oceans of saliva and barely 3 fingers opening. the patient did not consent for the extraction of #46 as it was not causing him any pain. Still learning line angles and shapes. Not playing yet with many different shades but focusing more on shape.

Get the desired occlusal clearance every time !!

Palatal and lingual cusps & central fossa areas are the ones which are most easily missed

no more impressions sent back from lab due to clearance issue !!

No more finding high spots and frustrating adjustments on the day of insertion !!

This is how I do it and I hope it helps you too.

1. Take an articulating paper strip of known thickness - preferably 200 microns or more

2. Fold the articulating paper onto itself multiple times until desired thickness is achieved

3. Cut small sections of the articulating paper and add to/subtract from the previously folded strip to get the exact thickness needed and verify the resultant thickness with caliper

4. Hold the folded articulating paper assembly over the tooth preparation and ask the patient to close in maximum intercuspation

5. Evaluate for the markings of the articulating paper assembly on the tooth preparation and adjust the areas accordingly

6. Redo the above steps in case of further doubt
