Keeping aside the discussion for a while weather metal crown or metal ceramic crown can do the same or Other commonly used form of Dental Prosthesis (e.g. Zirconia) are “only/ mainly” indicated because they are only “Safe” for MRI….

I feel sorry for the unfortunate person who has gone so close to an active MRI machine with a 9 KG metal chain without any one stopping him doing it (though the fact is not verified) and it also gives me a greater sense of responsibility as a dental surgeon to inform my patients about the possible risks of Metal Ceramic crown before giving it and provide them a check-up of the crown before any MRI scan is advised (if possible free of cost).

With my little knowledge in Dental Sciences, I still believe (though Prosthodontists are the specialist to comment about it) if made with precision, Metal Ceramic Crowns are still one of the best possible prostheses and can provide a much better solution to patients than many other relatively expensive alternatives in many instances.

And for those dental surgeons who are so keen to justify the so-called Ban on Metal Ceramic Crown only for MRI… please ask yourself…. Will you also have the same answer if your patient is asked to remove Dental Implants or Orthodontic Braces or the Metal Post and Core you have placed?
