The initial concern was a composite build-up on 11(front right tooth), placed to close a diastema, done years ago from elsewhere,
which over time appeared bulky and discolored.
However, this was not just a single-tooth issue.
It was a matter of overall smile harmony and proportion.
The existing build-up on 11 had compensated for space,
but at the cost of:
• Increased tooth width
• Altered proportions
• Compromised symmetry with 21 (left central incisor )
• Midline discrepancy
Why a limited approach (1 or 2 teeth) was not ideal:
Treating only 11—or even 11 & 21—would have resulted in:
❌ Disproportionately wide central incisors
❌ A “heavy” and unaesthetic midline dominance
❌ Inability to properly correct the dental midline
❌ Poor transition with adjacent teeth
❌ An overall smile that looks imbalanced and artificial
Additionally, spacing was present in the lower arch as well,
which further required a comprehensive approach to maintain inter-arch harmony.
Treatment philosophy:
Instead of correcting a single restoration,
we have to address the smile as a whole:
✔️ Redistribution of spaces across multiple teeth
✔️ Restoration of ideal tooth proportions
✔️ Symmetry between central incisors
✔️ Correction and alignment of the midline
✔️ Harmonization with adjacent and opposing teeth
✔️ Natural surface texture, translucency, and shade integration
Because true aesthetic dentistry is not about fixing one tooth—
it’s about ensuring the entire smile works in proportion, balance, and harmony.
