Ahead of their departure for the Asia Rugby Emirates U-18 Championship in Qingdao, China, the Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) had the proud privilege of hosting the Indian U-18 Boys' and Girls' Rugby Teams for a pre-competition dental assessment and oral health awareness session.⁣

This session was conducted under the banner of the Indian Academy of 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 (𝐈𝐀𝐒𝐃) — 𝐚 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐈𝐃𝐀) — and was organised in association with KIDS, KIIT Deemed to be University.⁣

The curtain has come down on a truly landmark event — the 1st East Zonal PG Convention of the Indian Orthodontic Society, hosted with great pride by the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar.

Over three remarkable days, the convention brought together the finest minds of the orthodontic fraternity under one roof, united by the theme: "Aligning the Future, Rooted in Fundamentals."

Day 2 set the intellectual tone with seven power-packed scientific sessions featuring eminent national speakers — covering the biology of tooth movement, the extraction/non-extraction conundrum, cleft care, aligner biohazards, manuscript writing, and much more. The Inaugural Ceremony that followed was a proud and celebratory milestone for East Zone orthodontics.

The cultural programme was a radiant testament to the all-round talent of our students — with soul-stirring vocal performances, a deeply moving theatrical act, a live classical music ensemble, and dazzling classical dance presentations that left the audience in awe.

Beyond the Bracket — Innovation, Research & Entrepreneurship at the Table Clinic

Day 3 brought one of the convention's most intellectually stimulating segments: the Table Clinic. The postgraduate students, interns, and dental student volunteers of KIDS presented thoughtfully crafted models addressing real-world challenges in orthodontic treatment planning, management, and long-term maintenance. Each exhibit was a reflection of the culture of innovation, research, and entrepreneurship that thrives at KIDS — where students are encouraged not just to learn orthodontics, but to think about how to advance it and make it more accessible for the general population.

The convention concluded with a Certificate Distribution Ceremony, honouring the participants and contributors who made this three-day gathering a resounding success.

The morning starts at the ward. Patients are reviewed. Cases are discussed. Notes are taken. Our faculty walk through every bed, every file, every face — because surgery begins long before the first incision.⁣

Then comes planning. Our MDS postgraduates gather, X-rays go up on the screen, and the team maps out the day — which cases go to major OT, which to minor OT, who assists, who leads. Precision first. Always.⁣
⁣
By mid-morning, the OT is ready and running. Scrubbed in, masked up, focused — our surgeons and resident doctors work side by side under the lights. From complex orthognathic surgeries and facial trauma reconstruction to TMJ disorders, oral oncology, implantology, and dentoalveolar procedures — every case is handled with the same commitment. Every cut is intentional. Every cure is earned.⁣

The final day of the 1st East Zonal PG Convention belonged to the students — and they delivered with distinction.

Day 3 featured the Table Clinic, one of the most anticipated and intellectually stimulating segments of any postgraduate convention. The postgraduate students, interns, and dental student volunteers of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences rose to the occasion with remarkable energy, presenting carefully crafted models that addressed real-world challenges in orthodontic treatment planning, management, and long-term maintenance.

What made this Table Clinic truly exceptional was what it represented beyond the models themselves — a living demonstration of the culture of innovation, research, and entrepreneurship that is nurtured every day at KIDS. Each presentation reflected months of clinical observation, critical thinking, and a genuine desire to solve problems that matter to patients. The student-created models explored better ways to communicate orthodontic treatment to patients, simplify complex management protocols, and improve maintenance outcomes for the general population — bridging the gap between clinical excellence and community impact.

That is the Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT — working tirelessly, month after month, year after year, in service of the nation's oral health.

With 70,000+ patients seen annually through OPD, this department is one of the busiest and most impactful oral medicine units in Eastern India. Whether it is screening for oral cancer, managing complex mucosal disorders, treating orofacial pain, or delivering advanced laser therapy — every patient who walks in receives the very best of evidence-based dental care.

But the department's contribution goes far beyond clinical service.

With 5 ICMR-funded national research grants and ₹4.16 Crores in total research funding, KIDS' Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology is an active and proud contributor to India's growing reputation in oral health research and innovation. Faculty like Dr. Atul Bajoria, Associate Professor, are leading nationally recognised research that is shaping how Dept. of Oral Medicine are understood, detected, and treated across the country.

Day 2 of the 1st East Zonal PG Convention was not just a day of science. It was a day that proudly showcased the brilliance, dedication, and cultural richness of the postgraduate students and interns of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences.

From the Inauguration Ceremony, where our students stood with poise and purpose alongside some of the finest minds in Indian orthodontics, to the cultural programme that followed — our PG students and interns proved, beyond doubt, that the spirit of KIDS is as vibrant off the podium as it is on it.

The cultural events were nothing short of spectacular. Classical dance performances rendered with grace and discipline, a deeply moving and powerful theatrical act that stirred the conscience of every person in the auditorium, and a live musical ensemble that filled the hall with melody and warmth — every performance was a testament to the multi-dimensional talent that thrives within the walls of this institution.

Today, as India celebrates its independence, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) proudly celebrates 20 years of that vision in action.

For 20 years, KIDS has stood as a beacon of innovation in dental sciences — pioneering modern approaches in teaching, research, and clinical practice. As one of the finest dental institutions in Eastern India, we have nurtured thousands of skilled dental professionals who now serve patients across Odisha, India, and the world. 🦷✨

Our commitment has always been twofold — to strengthen dentistry as a modern and fulfilling career for our students, and to enhance oral health awareness, care, and treatment among the general population of our state and nation. Every patient treated, every smile restored, and every student graduated is a step toward a healthier, happier India.

None of this would have been possible without the exceptional leadership and tireless committment of our respected Director, Dr. Jugajyoti Pathi, and our esteemed Principal, Dr. Sangamesh N.C. — whose vision, discipline, and deep commitment to academic excellence have kept KIDS running at its very best. We are profoundly grateful for their unwavering support of every faculty member, every staff, and every student of this institution. 🙏

And above all, we bow with the deepest gratitude and reverence to our Hon'ble Founder, Prof. Dr. Achyuta Samanta Sir — who worked tirelessly across multiple decades to build, and nurture not just KIDS, but the entire ecosystem of KIIT, KISS, and KIMS — giving our institution world-class infrastructure, global standards, and an ever-inspiring purpose. His sacrifices, his encouragement, and his relentless pursuit of a healthier nation are the very foundation upon which KIDS stands today.
