Patient named Radha 56/f has come to us with a complaint of swelling inside her mouth since 3 months back with a history of previous surgery 10years back.
Basic investigations like blood profile, x-rays and CT's were advised. CT reveals recurrence of the tumor in her upper left jaw which was close to the eyeball and surrounding important structures, a surgery has been planned and total removal of the lesion(ameloblastoma) has been done without damaging the eyeball and vital structures , proper tight closure has been given without gaping followed by a placement of prosthesis (palatal obturator) which helps to restore the surgical defect and aids in the function of speaking, swallowing or chewing.

Corrective jaw surgeries are done for esthetic and functional purposes when either of jaws have prognathism(forwardly placed jaw than normal) or retrognathism (backwardly placed than normal). These kind of growth discrepancies may cause excessive forces on the temporomandibular joint and lead to joint pain in the longer run.
Here we are presenting one such patient who had excessive growth of the lower jaw which was esthetically and functionally not normal. Treatment plan decided was bilateral sagital split osteotomy i.e. the lower jaw was split and was moved to more posterior (backward) position. After the surgery, patient’s profile has shown drastic improvement, patient and his family were very happy with the result.
