A 48-year-old patient walked into the Department of Periodontology at Viraj Eye and Dental Hospital, Pune with a simple complaint — pain and mobility in his lower right teeth.

But what seemed routine… wasn’t.

For over 5 years, he had a habit of placing gutkha in the exact same spot… every single day.

That one habit led to severe localized damage — deep periodontal pockets, more than 70% bone loss, and a tooth that could not be saved.

Despite our best efforts with non-surgical therapy, extraction became the only option.

The good news?
