🩺 Case Spotlight: Advanced Buccal Mucosa SCC – Comprehensive Surgical Management
We recently managed a challenging case of Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) of the buccal mucosa, requiring an extensive and carefully planned surgical approach.
🔎 Diagnosis
Biopsy-confirmed SCC of the buccal mucosa with local extension.
🏥 Surgical Procedure Performed
✔️ Full-thickness cheek resection
✔️ Neck dissection
✔️ Immediate reconstruction using bilateral PMMC (Pectoralis Major Myocutaneous) flap
The use of a bipedicle PMMC flap allowed: • Adequate bulk for defect closure
• Reliable vascularity
• Restoration of oral competence
• Acceptable aesthetic contour
