Mouthguards in sport:
Traumatic injuries to the permanent teeth are very common affecting 20-30% of the population. They are often associated with psychological, economic, functional and aesthetic consequences for the individual. Preventing tooth injuries by absorbing adn deflecting blows to the teeth
2. Shielding the lips tongue and gums form laceration
3. Preventing opposing teeth from coming in

to violent contact.
4. Providng the lower jaw with support to resist fracture of the jaw.
5. Types of Mouthguard:
- Stock
- Boil and Bite
- Custom Fit

Laminated Custom fit Mouthguard:
"A laminated custom fit mouthguard provides the highest level of protection against dental trauma." They are well retained, close fitting, less bulky and more comfortable to wear. Advantages of a Laminated Custom Fit Mouthguard:
1. Ensures adequate thickness (3mm+) around the front teeth
2. Ensures adequate thickness (4mm+) on biting surface
3. Allows name to be incoporated between layers.
4. Can be made in team colours.
