Did you know your routine dental check-up is about much more than your teeth? 💙
At every examination, your dentist also carries out a mouth cancer screening, checking for any unusual changes that may need further investigation.
We’re looking for signs such as:
🔹 Red or white patches
🔹 Mouth ulcers that haven’t healed after 2–3 weeks
🔹 Lumps or swellings
🔹 Changes to the tongue, cheeks, lips or gums
🔹 Persistent pain, numbness, difficulty swallowing or ongoing hoarseness
**Early detection is incredibly important.** When mouth cancer is identified early, treatment is often less invasive and outcomes are significantly better.
At Shields Dental Clinic, we’re also fortunate to have in house oral surgeons available. If your dentist spots an area of concern during your examination, you have access to specialist assessment and, where appropriate, further investigation or a biopsy without unnecessary delays.
