“Can MARPE grow your jaw forward ?”

This is a common MARPE question and one that we got asked on our recent MARPE video.

The MARPE is highly effective at maxillary expansion.
Particularly in underbite cases it has become clear that its also highly effective
at bringing the upper jaw forward.

MARPE & braces or aligners ?

Short answer is, yes it is possible to have a MARPE device while having braces or aligners.

However this is only after expansion has taken place.
Usually around a month after expansion is carried out we have a look at braces or aligners.
This then allows us to fully exploit all of the advantages of the MARPE device.

“Do you provide bone anchored only MARPE devices?”

Yes, it’s called a BARME and we make them in our in house orthodontic lab.
These devices have four temporary implants which are 3D planned and built in our house.

Each device is specifically planned for our patients.
As always we only recommend it when there are clear benefits and the best possible long term out comes !

“Can anybody get a MARPE?”

This is the most commonly asked question since our last MARPE video.
The short honest answer is yes, but only if it’s actually right for you.

The MARPE is not a one size fits all!
MARPE should only be used if it’s going to directly benefit you.

After nearly 15 years using this technique we know when a MARPE is the right call.

MARPE : Mini Implant Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion is everywhere online at the moment
and most of what is being shared online in regards to MARPE leaves out the most important part that matters.

A Fond Farewell, and a Warm Welcome!

Last Friday marked Sinéad O'Dwyer's final day here at Dentistry Northern Cross.

Sinéad's warmth, professionalism and genuine care for her patients have left a lasting impression on our whole team and on the many patients who came to trust her completely. She will be greatly missed. Sinead, thank you for everything, we wish you nothing but the very best in this next chapter.

As Sinéad moves on, we are delighted to welcome Dr Edward Fahy as our new Specialist Oral Surgeon.

Edward joined the Specialist Register in Oral Surgery after completing his specialist training at Cork University Dental School and Hospital, and holds a Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery) from UCC. He brings extensive experience in wisdom tooth removal, implant placement, bone grafting and IV conscious sedation, with a patient centred approach that puts comfort and clear communication first.

Our patients will be in excellent hands.

At Dentistry Northerncross, we occasionally hear the myth that veneers cause bad breath.

Dr. Hamza Malik, our Restorative & Aesthetic Dentist, is here to set the record straight.

Bad breath from veneers is very rare and isn’t caused by the veneers themselves.

In the uncommon cases where it does occur, it’s usually due to issues such as:

Poor margins
Excess cement
Open contacts
A poor marginal seal

It’s not the veneers it’s actually how they were executed.

When veneers are carefully planned and precisely fitted, they support both a healthy smile and lasting results.
