I am grateful to have participated as a Keynote Speaker at the International Conference on Otolaryngology and ENT Disorders, held in Singapore on July 6–7, 2026.

It was a great honor to present my work on TMJ ultrasound and temporomandibular disorders in ENT practice, and to highlight how a standardized ultrasound protocol of the temporomandibular joint and masticatory muscles may support earlier recognition of TMD-related dysfunction and contribute to differential diagnosis in everyday ENT care.

The conference offered a valuable opportunity for professional exchange and interdisciplinary discussion with colleagues from around the world.

I am thankful for the inspiring conversations and new professional connections this event brought.

This conference provides an excellent opportunity for experts from around the world to come together, exchange knowledge, discuss emerging research, and explore innovative approaches that advance the field of otolaryngology and related disciplines. In an era of rapid scientific and technological development, international collaboration and interdisciplinary dialogue are more important than ever in improving patient care and health outcomes.

Chronic facial pain in women is still too often underestimated.

Jaw pain, headaches, facial tension, neck discomfort, or clicking sounds are frequently attributed to stress, anxiety, or temporary muscular tension — while underlying temporomandibular disorders (TMD) may remain undiagnosed for years.

Our recent pilot study, “Ultrasound examination of asymmetry in temporomandibular disorders”, explored whether ultrasonography could provide a standardized, non-invasive, radiation-free, and cost-effective method for assessing anatomical asymmetry in the temporomandibular joint and masticatory muscles.

The topic is inherently multidisciplinary, involving dentistry, maxillofacial surgery, radiology, otolaryngology, rehabilitation, and pain medicine. Yet patients often experience fragmented diagnostic pathways before receiving appropriate evaluation.

One of the most important aspects of ultrasound is its preventive potential:
✔ radiation-free
✔ repeatable
✔ patient-friendly
✔ accessible for long-term follow-up and early recognition

As women are disproportionately affected by chronic facial pain conditions, improving early and objective diagnostics is not only a technological challenge, but also part of a broader conversation about women’s health, diagnostic equity, and patient-centered care.

Further studies are needed, but we hope this work contributes to earlier recognition and safer, more accessible diagnostic pathways in temporomandibular disorders.

We are proud to share that our temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ultrasound protocol has been published in Clinics, a Brazilian general medical journal, by one of the world’s leading scientific publishers, Elsevier.

This study introduces a standardized approach that may support improved diagnosis and prevention of temporomandibular disorders (TMD).

The topic is inherently multidisciplinary, relevant to dentists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, gnathologists, radiologists, and pain management specialists alike.

TMD affects a significant portion of the adult population—estimated at 5–15%—often leading to chronic pain, functional impairment, and reduced quality of life.

Our goal was to develop a practical, reproducible, and accessible ultrasound protocol that can facilitate earlier detection and contribute to more effective patient care.

We are honored to see our work recognized on an international platform.🙂
