Still smiling after such an amazing experience at the ORMCO Forum in Malta 🇲🇹✨

A huge THANK YOU to the organizing team and the 800 orthodontists from all over the world who joined my lecture — what a crowd, what an energy! 🙌 It was a magnificent event in every way!

Sharing the stage with my friend and colleague Dr. Enzo Pasciuti made it even more special — our dual lecture is one I’ll never forget! 💪

A very big thank you as well to ORMCO and Dario Manni, for all their support and collaboration during the last 2.5 years. Thanks to this incredible partnership, I’ve already reached 1,000 Spark Aligner cases — something only possible thanks to their outstanding system, my hardworking clinic team, and, of course, the trust of my amazing patients 🙏

And yes… I’ve fully switched from my previous aligner brand to Spark — and I haven’t looked back. What was good some years ago just doesn’t compare anymore. Spark is truly the next level — and if you give it a fair try, you’ll see exactly what I mean 😉

At the end of day what matters is the appliance in the mouth of the patient: the fitting and the mechanical features for clinical efficiency and the clarity for aesthetic reasons. This patient presented with congenitally missing upper lateral incisors, which can often pose a challenge in achieving a natural, harmonious smile. Instead of opting for implants in the sensitive frontal esthetic zone, we chose a space-opening approach between the bicuspids. This allowed us to create a full, natural-looking smile without the need for invasive procedures in the esthetic zone.
Using Ormco Damon Braces for the majority of the treatment and Spark Aligners for finishing and refinement, we achieved a result that not only looks amazing but also feels completely natural!

The Challenge: Open Bite and TMD SymptomsThe patient presented with a significant anterior open bite, where the upper and lower front teeth did not meet when the back teeth were in contact. This malocclusion not only affected the patient’s smile aesthetics but also led to functional issues, including difficulty chewing and speaking. Additionally, the patient experienced TMD symptoms, such as jaw pain and clicking, which were likely exacerbated by the open bite and the resulting strain on the jaw joints.The Treatment Plan: A Two-Phase ApproachTo address both the open bite and TMD symptoms, a carefully planned two-phase approach was implemented:1. Initial Splint Therapy for TMD Relief�Before starting orthodontic treatment, the patient underwent splint therapy to stabilize the jaw joints, reduce muscle tension, and alleviate TMD symptoms. This phase was critical to ensure that the patient’s jaw was in a stable and comfortable position before moving forward with aligner treatment.2. Spark Aligners with Posterior Bite Turbos�Once the TMD symptoms were under control, the patient transitioned to Spark Aligners for open bite correction. To maintain the stability achieved with the splint and prevent relapse of TMD symptoms, posterior bite turbos were incorporated into the aligners. These small, tooth-colored attachments were placed on the molars to prevent the back teeth from fully closing, mimicking the effect of the splint. This allowed the aligners to effectively intrude the posterior teeth and close the open bite while protecting the jaw joints.The Results: A Life-Changing TransformationAfter a carefully monitored treatment period, the patient’s open bite was fully corrected, and the TMD symptoms remained resolved. The final result was not only a beautifully aligned smile but also improved jaw function and overall oral health. The patient was thrilled with the outcome, highlighting the comfort and effectiveness of Spark Aligners combined with the strategic use of posterior bite turbos.
