Hi my name is Dr Simon Wilsdon. I have been the principal dentist at the Beeches Dental Practice in Acomb for the last 23 years. I qualified from Leeds Dental School in 1990. I went straight into general practice but completed a 2-year fixed orthodontic course at Leeds Dental institute. On moving to Acomb I became a Clinical Assistant at York District Hospital for 17 years. It was here that my interest in Dental Sleep Medicine was piqued. I completed several courses in the treatment of snoring and joined the British Society of Dental Sleep Medicine. I was one of the first UK dentists to attend the residential masterclass course and undertake the initial PGCert in Dental Sleep Medicine organised by the British Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. I am a member of the British Sleep Society and I serve on the board of the British Society of Dental Sleep Medicine. With the BSDSM, I lecture fellow dentist on dental sleep medicine. As a snorer I have worn several anti-snoring appliances from the “cheap and not so cheerful” to the superior fourth generation appliances. I find this personal experience invaluable in helping my patients achieve treatment success.
At the York Dental Sleep Clinic we will assess and treat patients who have snoring issues. We will also screen for the more serious sleep breathing disorders like obstructive sleep apnoea. If we find there is a risk of obstructive sleep apnoea, we can arrange home sleep tests or referrals to sleep clinics.
We will give advice on sleep hygiene and adjunctive treatments. We will be using the most up to date and researched fourth generation appliances provided by Prosomnus, Panthera Dental and SomnoMed. We will find the relevant appliance for each individual patient as we appreciate not one size fits all.
We will be taking any referrals and the cost of the initial consultation is £150 with the appliances starting at £1100.
