Veneers in the UK or abroad? What should patients think about before making a decision? 🦷
In this video, Dr Aron Kandola from Rock Dental talks about an increasingly common question in cosmetic dentistry:
Should I have veneers done locally in the UK, or travel abroad because the treatment appears cheaper?
It is completely understandable why some patients consider travelling abroad for dental treatment. The upfront cost can sometimes look lower, the turnaround time can seem quicker, and social media often shows very dramatic smile transformations.
However, veneers are not just a cosmetic purchase. They are a dental treatment that can have a significant impact on the health, strength and long-term future of your natural teeth.
At Rock Dental, we believe patients should be fully informed before making such an important decision.
One of the key concerns with some types of fast cosmetic dentistry is heavy tooth preparation. In some cases, natural teeth are cut down significantly and then covered with veneers or crowns to create a new smile. This can make the teeth look straighter, whiter or more uniform very quickly, but it may also remove far more natural tooth structure than is necessary.
Once healthy tooth tissue has been removed, it cannot be put back.
That is why careful assessment and treatment planning are so important.
Potential long-term problems from poorly planned or overly aggressive cosmetic treatment can include:
• Ongoing sensitivity
• Toothache or nerve problems
• Gum inflammation or recession
• Bite problems
• Chipping, debonding or fracture
• Difficulty cleaning around restorations
• The need for root canal treatment
• The need for replacement crowns or veneers
• Higher long-term costs if complications develop
The cheaper option in the short term is not always the cheaper option in the long term.
At Rock Dental, our approach to veneers and cosmetic dentistry is based on minimally invasive dentistry wherever possible. That means preserving as much natural tooth structure as we can, planning carefully, and only preparing teeth when it is clinically appropriate.
Before considering veneers, we assess:
• The health of your teeth and gums
• The position of your teeth
• Your bite
• The quality and amount of enamel available
• Whether whitening, orthodontics or composite bonding may be suitable
• How your smile will function, not just how it will look
• How your veneers will be maintained over time
In many cases, the best cosmetic result does not come from cutting teeth down heavily. It comes from careful planning, conservative preparation and choosing the right treatment for the right patient.
Having treatment locally also means you have easier access to review appointments, aftercare, adjustments, maintenance and support if something does not feel right.
A smile makeover should be beautiful, but it should also be healthy, stable and maintainable.
If you are thinking about veneers, we would be happy to discuss your options and help you understand what is suitable for your teeth.
