Daisy is the newest friendly face at the front of house here at Tunbridge Wells Dental Centre.

Now she has settled in to practice life, we thought ask her a few questions so you can get to know her a little better

1️⃣ What made you want to work in a dental practice?

I wanted to work in a dental practice because I love being able to be a part of the local community and wanted to help people feel less daunted by the idea of coming to the dentist. I believe that our smiles can bring us so much confidence, and creating healthy habits for our oral care will always make us feel better within ourselves!

2️⃣ What do you enjoy most about being on reception?

Getting to know our wonderful patients! I love being able to connect with our patients and make them feel as comfortable as possible. Whether it is helping to make your day slightly easier by rearranging your appointments or having a good catch up when you come in, I am always excited to give you the best experience and make our practice as welcoming as possible.

3️⃣ What’s your favourite way to help patients feel at ease?

Going to the dentist can be nerve-wracking, and it is completely normal to feel a little nervous before coming in for an appointment or treatment. I always want patients to know that I am hear to listen, whether they want to talk about what is worrying them, or they would rather be distracted and talk about what other exciting things they are up to that week. I’ll always offer you a cup of tea, coffee or just some water to help you feel at home here too!

4️⃣ What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work you’ll usually find me out in nature for long walks with my golden retriever Juno, exploring markets and expanding my vinyl collection, reading a great book in a coffee shop or swimming. I’m also a keen cook and love hosting a paella or tapas night!

5️⃣ What’s a fun fact about you that most people wouldn’t know?

I love musical theatre and have been lucky enough to perform on some great stages, including singing at the Hackney Empire Theatre!

Be sure to say hello to Daisy next time you visit!

Is Flossing Really Necessary?

Short answer… yes!

Brushing your teeth cleans the front, back, and biting surfaces. But it can’t properly reach between your teeth, where plaque, food particles, and bacteria often build up. That’s where flossing (or using interdental brushes) becomes so important.

Why flossing matters:
✔️ Helps prevent gum disease and inflammation
✔️ Removes trapped food and plaque between teeth
✔️ Reduces bleeding gums and bad breath
✔️ Helps prevent staining between teeth
✔️ Supports long-term oral health

Many people only floss when something gets stuck in their teeth, but making it part of your daily routine can have a huge impact on both your gum health and your smile.

If plaque is left between the teeth for too long, it can lead to gum disease. Which is one of the leading causes of tooth loss. The good news? Early gum problems are often preventable with good oral hygiene and regular hygiene appointments.

Not sure whether floss, tape, interdental brushes or water flossers are best for you? Our team can help recommend the right option for your smile.

Do you wake up with jaw pain, headaches, or sensitive teeth? You might be grinding or clenching your teeth. Often without even realising it.

Teeth grinding (also known as bruxism) commonly happens at night and can be linked to stress, sleep issues, or bite problems.

Why it’s important to address it early:
• Worn, chipped or cracked teeth
• Increased tooth sensitivity
• Jaw pain and stiffness
• Headaches and facial pain
• Damage to fillings, crowns, or bridges
• Long-term jaw joint (TMJ) problems

Because grinding often happens during sleep, many people don’t realise they’re doing it until damage has already occurred. The good news? When caught early, we can help prevent long-term complications.

Treatment options may include:
✔️ Custom-made night guards to protect your teeth
✔️ Bite assessments
✔️ Advice on managing contributing factors

If you’ve noticed signs of grinding or are experiencing jaw discomfort, don’t ignore it. Early intervention can protect your smile and prevent more complex treatment in the future.

Contact us to book a check-up and let’s keep your smile healthy and pain-free.

Did you know dental care should begin before your child’s first tooth appears? Healthy smiles start early, and good habits now can make a big difference for years to come.

Top Tips for Baby & Toddler Oral Health:
✔️ Once teeth appear, brush twice daily with a tiny smear of fluoride toothpaste
✔️ Avoid sugary drinks in bottles – water is best!
✔️ Encourage cup-drinking after 6 months to reduce prolonged exposure to sugars
✔️ Schedule their first dental visit as soon as their first tooth comes through

Many parents don’t realise that early dental care isn’t just about cleaning. It’s about preventing decay, building positive dental experiences, and setting the foundation for lifelong oral health.
