Have you got a broken or cracked tooth you need fixing? 🦷

A dental crown is used to fix teeth that have been broken, weakened by decay or have a very large filling. The crown fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth.

It will also be tooth coloured, giving the restoration a more natural appearance, fitting in with the rest of your teeth. A crown could be a good solution for you if you have some discoloured fillings and would like to improve their appearance.

Also, if you have had root canal treatment, a crown will be needed to protect or cap the restored tooth, allowing you to eat and bite down on it as if it was a real tooth. Crowns can also be used to anchor a bridge or denture firmly in place in the mouth. Crowns are made from many different materials, including metal, porcelain or porcelain bonded to metal.

What is Dental Erosion? 🦷🦷

Erosion is the loss of tooth enamel caused by acid attack. Enamel is the hard, protective coating of the tooth, which protects the sensitive dentine underneath. When the enamel is worn away, the dentine underneath is exposed, which may lead to pain and sensitivity.

❌ What can I do to prevent dental erosion?
There are a number of things you can do:
✅ Keep acidic products and fizzy drinks to mealtimes, to reduce the number of acid attacks on your teeth
✅ Drink quickly without holding in or ‘swishing’
around your mouth. Or use a straw to help drinks go to the back of your mouth and avoid long contact with your teeth.
✅ Finish a meal with cheese or milk as this will help cancel out the acid
✅ Chew sugar-free gum after eating. This will help produce more saliva to help cancel out the acids which form in your mouth after eating ✅ Wait for at least one hour after eating or drinking anything acidic before brushing your teeth. This gives your teeth time to build up their mineral content again
✅ Brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day with a small-headed brush with medium to soft bristles and fluoride toothpaste.

Around 5,000 B.C., the Egyptians used crushed eggshells and ground animal hooves to clean and polish their teeth 😮
Over time, toothbrushes evolved and were made from bone, wood or ivory handles and stiff bristles of hogs, boars or other animals. The modern nylon-bristled toothbrush we use today was invented in 1938, and the first electric toothbrush was introduced in 1954

Do you floss everyday? 🦷
