✨ Polynucleotides — what are they?

You may have heard more about polynucleotides recently, but what exactly are they?

Polynucleotides are injectable treatments used with the aim of improving skin quality rather than changing facial shape or adding volume.

They are used as part of a skin-rejuvenation approach to support:

✨ Skin hydration and quality
✨ Elasticity and texture
✨ The appearance of fine lines
✨ Skin that looks tired or lacking in vitality

One of the reasons I like this approach is that the aim is subtle: supporting healthier-looking skin while keeping you looking like you.

Polynucleotides aren't suitable for everyone, and results and treatment plans vary. A consultation is therefore important to discuss your skin concerns, medical history and whether this—or another approach—is appropriate for you.

Healthy skin. Natural-looking results. Personalised care.

🦷 Does food keep getting stuck in the same place?

We all occasionally get food caught between our teeth, but if it repeatedly happens in exactly the same area, it may be worth having it checked.

There can be several reasons, including:

• A gap or poor contact between neighbouring teeth
• A filling or crown that no longer has an ideal contact
• Tooth movement
• Gum or bone changes around the teeth
• Decay or damage to a tooth

Repeated food trapping isn't just annoying. Food left between the teeth can irritate the gums and make the area more difficult to keep clean.

Sometimes the solution is simply improving how the area is cleaned. At other times, there may be an underlying dental problem that needs attention.

If you're constantly reaching for the floss after every meal because of the same troublesome area, mention it at your next dental examination.

Little things can sometimes tell us quite a lot. 🦷

🌒 **Something special is happening in Cornwall this Wednesday!**

On **12th August**, we should be able to see a spectacular **partial solar eclipse** from Cornwall — weather permitting! ☀️🌙

If you're planning to have a look, please remember to protect your eyes.

👓 Use proper **eclipse/solar viewing glasses (ISO 12312-2)**
🕶️ Ordinary sunglasses, however dark, are **not safe for viewing the Sun**
🔭 Never look directly at the Sun through binoculars, a telescope or a camera without the correct solar filter
👧 Please make sure children are supervised when viewing the eclipse

The eclipse itself doesn't make the Sun's UV rays stronger — the risk comes from looking directly at the Sun, something we wouldn't normally do.

Here in Cornwall, the eclipse is expected to begin at around **6:18pm**, reaching its maximum at approximately **7:15pm**.

A wonderful opportunity to look up and enjoy something a little different — **just remember to look safely!** 🌙☀️

From all of us at

🦷 Restoring smiles, one step at a time 🦷

Sometimes dentistry is about more than treating a single tooth. It is about looking at the whole picture and helping someone feel comfortable and confident with their smile again.

This lovely patient came to us with worn, broken and heavily restored teeth. Their care involved careful assessment, treatment planning and a considered approach to restoring their smile, while working with what nature had given them.

For us, restorative dentistry isn't about creating a "perfect" smile.

It's about restoring health, function and confidence, while keeping the result natural and individual to the person.

Every patient is different, and sometimes the journey takes time. We believe in taking that time—listening, planning carefully and discussing the options available before deciding together on the most appropriate way forward.

A big thank you to our patient for allowing us to share their journey and for trusting us with their care. 🤍

Restoring teeth. Restoring smiles. Restoring confidence.

🦷 Could your tooth be cracked without you knowing?

Over the past few weeks, we've seen several patients attend with cracked teeth, often because they suddenly experienced pain when biting or found part of the tooth had broken away.

A tooth can crack for many reasons, including:

🦷 Biting on something hard
🦷 Large or ageing fillings that weaken the tooth
🦷 Tooth grinding or clenching
🦷 Tooth wear over time

One of the most surprising things is that a cracked tooth doesn't always hurt straight away. Some cracks can be present for weeks or even months before symptoms develop.

You may notice:
✔️ Pain when biting or releasing pressure
✔️ Sensitivity to hot or cold
✔️ Pain that comes and goes
✔️ A piece of the tooth breaking away

The earlier a cracked tooth is identified, the more treatment options may be available. Depending on the severity, treatment could range from monitoring or a filling to an onlay, crown, root canal treatment or, in some cases, extraction if the crack is too extensive.

✨ Don't ignore a tooth that's trying to tell you something. Early assessment can make all the difference.

If you're experiencing pain when biting or think you may have a cracked tooth, we'd be happy to help.

🩸 Bleeding gums are never "normal."

If your gums bleed when you brush or floss, your mouth could be trying to tell you something.

Bleeding gums are often one of the earliest signs of gum disease. Left untreated, gum disease can progress silently, leading to gum recession, loose teeth, persistent bad breath and, in some cases, tooth loss.

🚭 Smoking can make gum disease even more difficult to detect.

Smoking reduces blood flow to the gums, meaning they may bleed less—even when gum disease is present. This can mask the warning signs while the disease continues to progress beneath the surface.

🩺 Your oral health is closely connected to your general health.

Certain medical conditions, particularly diabetes, can make you more susceptible to developing gum disease. At the same time, untreated gum disease can make it more difficult to control blood sugar levels.

Research has also shown an association between gum disease and conditions such as heart disease, highlighting the importance of maintaining healthy gums as part of your overall wellbeing.

Healthy gums should look pink, feel firm and should not bleed regularly.

The good news is that when gum disease is identified early, it can often be managed successfully with good oral hygiene, regular professional care and, where appropriate, support to stop smoking.

✨ Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy smile—and an important part of your overall health.

If you've noticed bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, or it's been a while since your last dental examination or hygiene appointment, we'd be delighted to help.

✨ Healthy skin starts from within—but sometimes it benefits from a little extra support.

As we age, our skin naturally produces less collagen and elastin, which can lead to dryness, fine lines and a loss of firmness.

Treatments such as skin boosters and polynucleotides don't aim to change how you look—they're designed to support your skin's natural rejuvenation process.

They may help to:
💧 Improve skin hydration
✨ Enhance skin quality and texture
🌿 Support collagen production
😊 Leave your skin looking healthier, fresher and more radiant

Every skin is unique, which is why every journey begins with a detailed consultation.

Your consultation will be with Dr Leena Asopa, Dentist, who will take the time to understand your concerns, discuss your goals and recommend the treatment options that may be most suitable for you.

Because healthy, glowing skin is about feeling confident in your own skin—not looking like someone else.

🦷 No pain doesn't always mean no problem.

One of the most common things we hear is:

"It doesn't hurt, so I thought it could wait."

The reality is that many dental problems, including tooth decay, cracks, failing fillings and tooth wear, often develop without causing any pain in the early stages.

By the time a tooth becomes painful, the damage may have progressed, sometimes meaning more complex treatment such as a root canal treatment, crown, or in some cases, the tooth may no longer be restorable.

Regular dental examinations allow us to identify problems early, often before you even notice them. Early diagnosis can help keep treatment simpler, more conservative, and preserve more of your natural tooth.

✨ Looking after your smile isn't just about treating problems—it's about preventing them.

If it's been a while since your last dental examination, we'd be delighted to welcome you.
