The truth? Fluoride is one of the most well-researched and effective tools we have for preventing tooth decay. 🤍

Fluoride helps strengthen teeth and can help prevent, control and even arrest the early stages of tooth decay. That’s why UK dental guidance recommends brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.

For most adults, the recommended toothpaste contains 1,350–1,500ppm fluoride. After brushing, simply spit out the excess rather than rinsing with water — this allows the fluoride to remain around your teeth for longer.

💧 And what about fluoride in drinking water?

The latest 2026 health monitoring report for England found that people living in fluoridated areas, particularly children, had lower levels of tooth decay. Importantly, the report found no evidence of an effect on cognitive ability in children and no convincing evidence of harm to general health at levels within the regulatory limit.

Like anything, the amount matters. Excessive fluoride ingestion during tooth development can cause dental fluorosis, which is why children should use an age-appropriate amount of toothpaste and be supervised when brushing.

So, rather than being something to fear, fluoride is an important part of evidence-based tooth decay prevention. 🪥✨

A little goodbye to our lovely Maliaka 🥹🦷💗
After being such a much loved member of Longton Dental Centre, Maliaka is heading off to university to follow a completely new career path! 🎓✨
We’re so excited to see where this next chapter takes her, but we’re definitely going to miss her around the practice, and as you can tell from what the team have to say, she’s going to be missed A LOT! 🥹😂

Our lovely Farwa is off on maternity leave, and we couldn’t be happier for her as she gets ready to welcome her newest little arrival! 🥹
