37°C then. 37°C now. Five years apart 🌡️

The PPE photos are from 2021: full respirator, surgical gown, face shield, all in a non-air-conditioned surgery in the middle of a heatwave. I genuinely don't know how we got through those days, but we did.

Today, same temperature outside, completely different story. Just scrubs, scope, and so much gratitude for how far we've come.

A little PSA while we're at it: please stay hydrated out there today, whatever you're doing! 💧

Another octopus tooth 🐙 for the bank!

Dg: previously initiated root canal treatment, symptomatic apical periodontitis

Tx: over two visits. Usual local anaesthetic and rubber dam protocols. Existing restoration dismantled. Four portals of negotiation, 3 portals of exit. NaOCl 5.25% throughout, 20.04, passive ultrasonic activation, EDTA 17% as penultimate rinse, hydraulic condensation with Edge Bioceramic Sealer, Clearfil Dual Cure composite to finish et voila!

I'm delighted to share that I've recently started as a Clinical Dental Tutor at the University of Birmingham Dental Hospital teaching on the 4th Year Undergraduate Clinic (BDS4) 🦷✨

Alongside my role as Practice Principal at Shiraz Endo, it's been a refreshing change of pace and a brilliant opportunity to work with the next generation of dentists.

What I've enjoyed most is how teaching makes you reflect on your own practice. Endodontics has become second nature to me over the years, but explaining why I do what I do to someone encountering it for the first time is a learning experience in itself.

A good reminder that no matter how much experience you have, there's always more to learn, and I hope I never lose that curiosity 🙏

Hi gang! 👋 A recent case I wanted to share.

📋Dg: irreversible pulpitis, symptomatic apical periodontitis

🔬Tx: Usual LA and rubber dam protocols, access through existing crown, US troughing to locate canals. DB canal located initially, followed by DB via troughing and then ML. Was unable to locate MB canal in this visit but suspected sclerotic dentine over canal orifices. NaOCl 5.25% throughout, EDTA 17% and K-flexo 10 taken to 21mm. Tooth dressed and temporised.

🔬Tx: At the second visit, the patient reported he was pain free after our treatment- hurrah! Fresh eyes 👀allowed me to locate the MB canal by troughing. EDTA 17% and small K-flexo handfiles were my friends here. Finally got some lengths-25mm! I really had to fight for those final 4mm in all 4 canals. My poor fingers! 😭👌

🦷Canals prepped to 20.04, copious NaOCl 5.25% throughout. Passive ultrasonic irrigation with EDTA 17% as penultimate rinse. Matched GP cones, hydraulic condensation, Edge Bioceramic Sealer, Clearfil Dual Cure Composite to finish- et voila! ✨️💫

I am so incredibly honoured to share that I'm featured in this month's BDJ Student and I still can't quite believe I'm on the front cover 🥹✨

Being asked to share my journey into endodontics for the Careers edition felt really special. From a new graduate who genuinely used to dread root canals, to Practice Principal of a specialist referral practice, it's been quite a road!

If there's one thing I hope comes across in the article, it's that careers don't always follow a straight line. Sometimes the thing you once avoided becomes the thing you love most 🦷❤️
