I am so incredibly honoured to share that I'm featured in this month's BDJ Student and I still can't quite believe I'm on the front cover 🥹✨

Being asked to share my journey into endodontics for the Careers edition felt really special. From a new graduate who genuinely used to dread root canals, to Practice Principal of a specialist referral practice, it's been quite a road!

If there's one thing I hope comes across in the article, it's that careers don't always follow a straight line. Sometimes the thing you once avoided becomes the thing you love most 🦷❤️

How one tooth can change your whole smile 😃 🦷

📋This patient presented for re-root canal treatment of the UR1. He was unhappy with the discolouration of the tooth and wanted a crown after treatment. I convinced him to try internal bleaching and see where he lands after this on having a crown or not. We were both over the moon with the results!

The nitty gritty:

🔬Tx over two visits: rubber dam with sectional isolation, gp removed with hedstroms, copious irrigation NaOCl 5.25% throughout. Zero length Morita ZX. Apical gauge 45. Canal prepped to 30.06. Matched GP cones trimmed so apical gauge matched. Penultimate rinse EDTA 17%. Passive ultrasonic irrigation. GP cut back, 2mm GIC plug over GP. Internal bleaching performed 16% carbamide peroxide. Clearfil dual cure composite core to finish et voila! 💫✨️

Absolutely fantastic day attending the Langham Endodontic Study Group () Domenico Ricucci's (.domenico) lecture today on the biological aspects in prevention and treatment of pulp and periapical disease at the esteemed institute. My brain is full of new tips and techniques that I can't wait to implement on Monday. Thank you Domenico Ricucci for such an inspiring lecture and thank you Langham Endodontic Study Group for organising such a fantastic day as always.

A case I just had to share 🦷 because it's not always the most beautiful white lines on the radiograph that bring the most satisfaction!

This retreatment had everything: a patient who couldn't recline fully, a recent crown to preserve, ledges, persistent purulent discharge across multiple visits, and a Thermafil surprise for good measure 😅

Four visits, a lot of hand filing, very tired fingers, and finally dry canals and obturation 🙌

Diagnosis: previously root treated tooth, chronic apical abscess

Treatment: retreatment over four visits using both single tooth and sectional isolation, hand filing to bypass ledges, passive ultrasonic irrigation, NaOCl 5.25% and 17% EDTA, warm vertical compaction and Edge Bioceramic Thermal Flow sealer.

Fingers crossed for healing 🙏
