Every smile has a story.

With a summer holiday just around the corner, this patient wanted their smile to be confident, radiant, and ready for every photo, every laugh, every memory.

They had already completed orthodontic treatment, so the foundation was in place. But as is often the case, it’s the final details that make all the difference. There were a few small imperfections—slight unevenness along the upper edges, some chipped areas, and a yellowish tone that didn’t quite match the brightness they were looking for.

We began by refreshing the overall shade with Boutique whitening, lifting the discolouration, and creating a clean, bright base. Then came the artistry. Using composite bonding on the upper six teeth, we carefully refined the edges, balanced proportions, and enhanced the smile line. The lower canines were also treated to improve the guidance and gently close spaces, bringing both function and aesthetics into harmony.

The result? A naturally enhanced smile that still feels like them—just more polished, more balanced, and ready for sunshine, celebrations, and unforgettable moments.

Just in time for holiday photos ✨

Every smile has a story — and this one was about small details that made a big difference.

This patient attended feeling conscious of the dark/greyish teeth and worn fillings at the front, along with the small gaps that had developed over time. They were unsure whether the existing crown needed replacing, but wanted an overall fresher, more harmonious smile.

A conservative, staged approach was chosen.

We began with whitening to gently lift the overall shade. The old anterior fillings were then replaced with new composites to restore a natural appearance. Finally, two freehand composite veneers were placed to close the black triangles, reduce grey undertones, and create a more seamless blend.

No unnecessary treatment — just a thoughtful, minimally invasive approach tailored to the patient.

A refreshed, natural result.

Not every white filling is placed the same.✨

Two restorations may look identical at the end, but the technique behind them can be very different.

For this case I used rubber dam isolation to keep the tooth dry and protected from saliva during the bonding process.
Before placing the restoration, the cavity was also cleaned using powder abrasion, which helps remove residual bacteria and contamination from the tooth surface.

🟢Why does this matter?

Proper isolation and surface preparation help:
🔹Improve the strength of the bond
🔹Reduce the risk of post-treatment sensitivity
🔹Create a cleaner environment for long-lasting restorations

Composite dentistry is highly technique sensitive.

The material is the same — but the protocol and attention to detail make the difference.

Good dentistry isn’t rushed.
A well-executed procedure takes time.

A smile transformation built on planning, precision, and minimal intervention. One of my favourite cases from the archives..

This lovely case began with concerns about crowding, toothwear and uneven gum levels. Rather than moving straight to veneers, we first used Invisalign to gently reposition the teeth and improve the overall foundation of the smile.

By correcting the crowding and opening the bite orthodontically, we were able to create better symmetry and position the teeth ideally before moving to the cosmetic stage. This approach allows veneers to be carried out in the most conservative way possible.

Once the teeth were in their optimal position, the smile was carefully designed and transferred to a trial smile, allowing the patient to preview the proposed shapes and proportions before the final restorations were made.

The veneers were delivered using the First Fit Guided Veneer workflow, in collaboration with the Avant Garde Dental Laboratory in Liverpool. One of the most rewarding aspects of this case is how closely the final result matches the trial smile, demonstrating the accuracy that can be achieved with careful planning and collaboration between dentist and laboratory.

You can also appreciate from the images just how thin porcelain veneers truly are. Modern veneers are ultra-conservative ceramic shells designed to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible — very different from the aggressive preparations that are sometimes seen on social media.

We also discussed the option of crown lengthening to address the gummy smile. However, the patient preferred to maintain this as part of the natural character of their smile rather than completely altering its features. The aim therefore wasn’t to create a completely different smile, but to refine and enhance what was already there — improving balance, alignment, and brightness while maintaining the individuality of the patient’s smile.

A natural result that still looks like their smile — just the best version of it.

This lovely patient came to us concerned about the crowding and the noticeable tooth wear. While aesthetics were important to them, this case was about function as much as appearance.

Due to the restricted envelope of function, their lower teeth were experiencing excessive wear, something you can clearly see in the pre-treatment photos. The goal was not just to straighten teeth, but to create a healthier, more stable bite.

Over 12 months, we:
• Aligned the teeth
• Corrected the deep bite
• Restored proper function

Once the foundation was healthy and stable, we enhanced the smile with whitening and finished with minimal contouring .

Three simple steps: Align. Brighten. Contour.

A functional upgrade with a beautifully natural result — and one very happy patient.

This patient’s main concern was the crowding on the lower teeth. They also had spacing on the uppers but it wasn’t an initial issue.

With a history of gum disease (stable for over a year), alignment wasn’t the safest option. Moving teeth further could increase mobility and risk long-term damage.
So instead, we planned around their face, their gums, and their biology limitations.
Four lower front teeth were carefully shaped to soften the crowding, without forcing the teeth into positions they shouldn’t be in.

The patient liked the result and a few months later decided to proceed with the 5 upper veneers to close spaces and restore the smile balance and aesthetics.

You’ll notice a small natural space between the two upper front teeth. That reflects the original gum (and bone levels) position, but we accepted it as it preserves a softer, more harmonious tooth shape.

Not perfectly straight.
But more appropriate, more stable, and more her.
That’s facial-driven planning and patient-centred decision making.
