DIET - written by a dentist
Your diet is the overall name for the food and drink you have. It's the bigger picture, not just the meals or snacks. We need to eat and drink to survive, but cooking and baking are also a skills, going out for meals or even the work staff room at lunch is a chance to socialise. Our diet means a lot to us.
As I explained before, how frequently we eat is linked to the likelihood of tooth decay, and with a high sugar intake this is even more likely.
BUT, we are in a pandemic.
Shopping is weird, you will probably forget items from your list round the one way system at the shop, you're already stressed, you're spending more time in the house than you usually would, OR you're still working in this strange new time which is also crazily stressful.
Maybe just take the pressure off right now? Lifestyle changes are difficult, and I've already asked you to think about how well you're brushing.
We know that your brushing routine is the MOST effective way of reducing tooth decay and gum disease. So how about we sort that out? (there's room for improvement in everyone, I promise). That's not to say that food doesn't matter, because it does. Just focus on what you can change at the moment, don't stress about what you can't.
Don't worry about snacking, don't worry about that Easter egg, it's all part of the bigger picture.
I will be talking more about nutrition because there are links with dental health. However I am also a huge believer of signposting people to better sources of information where I can. So if you're going to follow anyone new today, make it . Registered nutritionist (that bit is important) and a reliable source of information.
Keep brushing, remember to fuel yourself, and keep staying at home please.
P. S. This caption would be just as valid with a photo of some chocolate but I've eaten it, so you'll have to deal with some funky veg colours.
