A lot of people still rinse with water straight after brushing, but that habit can wash away some of the fluoride your teeth need.

In this video, Paige Danes, one of our Dental Nurses, explains why the advice is to spit your toothpaste out and not rinse straight afterwards. Fluoride is there to help protect your teeth, so giving it time to stay on the surface matters.

It is a small change, but it can make your brushing routine more effective. Sometimes the best oral health advice is not about doing something extra, it is just about doing the basics in the right order.

A simple reminder, but a really useful one.

A lot of people still associate dentistry with pain, and that fear can stay with them for years.

In this video, Dr Stacey Fenwick talks about reassuring nervous patients and reminding them that they are in control throughout the appointment. If you need a break, want things explained more clearly or just need us to slow down, that is always okay.

Feeling more in control can make a huge difference when you are anxious. It helps take away some of the fear of the unknown and makes the whole visit feel more manageable.

At Sedgefield Dental, we want patients to feel supported, listened to and comfortable from the moment they sit in the chair.

One of the things patients love about Invisalign is how gradual the process is.

Instead of sudden or uncomfortable changes, each aligner applies gentle pressure to guide your teeth closer to their final position.

Aligners are usually swapped every 2–4 weeks, so your progress is steady and controlled.

It’s a carefully managed journey, designed to be comfortable, predictable and effective, with results that build week by week until your new smile is complete.

In this video, we’re introducing Jamie Stuart, one of our Dental Nurse Apprentices here at Sedgefield Dental.

Jamie talks about how much she enjoys helping patients feel comfortable during their visits, whether that is by chatting with them, offering reassurance or simply being there to help things feel a little easier. Those small moments can make a big difference, especially when someone is feeling nervous.

She also shares a little bit about herself outside of work too, which is always lovely to see. Jamie is really into crafts and enjoys making all sorts at home, which adds a nice personal touch to this introduction.

It is always nice for patients to get to know the people behind the scenes, and Jamie is a valued part of our team.

Research has shown that electric toothbrushes, particularly oscillating and rotating models, remove more plaque and prevent gum disease more effectively than manual brushing.

It’s not just about the motion, though. Many electric brushes include built-in timers to make sure you’re brushing for the recommended 2 minutes and pressure sensors to stop you scrubbing too hard and wearing down enamel.

That combination of consistency, gentle technique and thorough cleaning makes them a great choice for most people.

At Sedgefield Dental, we believe dentistry isn’t just about fixing problems, it’s about preventing them wherever possible.

That means encouraging regular dental health checks, hygiene visits and simple daily habits that protect your teeth and gums for the future.

By spotting issues early, we can often avoid more complex treatment later on, saving you time, discomfort and money.

It’s a value that runs through everything we do: helping you keep your smile healthier for longer.

Brushing your teeth every day is a really important habit, but it is only part of the picture.

In this video, Eleanor Browning, our Dental Nurse and Receptionist, explains that brushing alone cannot remove all the plaque and bacteria that build up in the mouth. Some areas are much easier to miss, especially between the teeth, and that is where problems can start if plaque is left to sit.

Over time, that build-up can lead to gum problems and other issues, which is why cleaning between your teeth matters so much. It is one of the best things you can add to your routine if you want to look after your mouth properly at home.

Sometimes the small changes are the ones that make the biggest difference.
