The Competition and Markets Authority is investigating private dental pricing right now — and their consultation on outcomes is due this month.

Their central finding so far: patients face unclear pricing before treatment, unexpected additional costs, and difficulty comparing like-for-like services.

We'd answer that simply.

If a practice uses 'from' prices or publishes no prices at all, it is genuinely impossible for a patient to compare costs before attending consultations at multiple practices. You'd have to book and attend a consultation at each one just to find out what treatment costs.

We think that's wrong. So we publish every price — fixed, not 'from' — on our website. You can compare our prices to any quote you've already received from another practice, right now, without booking anything or speaking to anyone.

This Mirror investigation published today says everything about the state of private dentistry in the UK right now.

Patients pushed out of NHS care and into private practices. Overcharged by thousands. Subjected to high-pressure sales tactics. Too scared to complain in case they lose access to a dentist altogether.

39% of patients in the Which? investigation said costs were excessive.

Private dentistry growing from 42% of the market in 2010 to 69% in 2025, not because patients chose it, but because NHS dentistry was allowed to collapse around them.
