About Maypole Dental Surgery & Implant Clinic

Appointments
When making an appointment, the receptionist will strive to offer you the most appropriate appointment time available, or when it is needed or requested by the dentist or yourself. We strive to see you within 24 hours. Reminders and recalls
At the end of your course of treatment your dentist will discuss with you when y

ou will need to see her again. Your dentist will advise you on how often you need to be seen to keep your teeth and gums healthy. We will book you a recall and contact you the day prior to your appointment to confirm. Cancellations
We like to remind our patients that it is important to keep appointments. We fully understand that in some circumstances you will be unable to attend and we would appreciate 48 hours’ notice of such cancellation, as this slot could be offered to another patient. Illnesses and grievances are obviously unavoidable and the receptionist and dentist will understand to wait to hear from you when you are ready. Failed appointments fees starts from £50. Complaints procedure
The Maypole Dental Surgery team will strive to provide quality dentistry appropriate to your needs in a pleasant and stress-free environment. Occasions do occur where there may be concerns or complaints about the way you are treated. In the first instance it may be possible to resolve the complaint verbally and we advise you speak to our complaints manager Charlene Knox (0161 627 2184) or the dentist, who will be happy to help. Full details of our complaints procedure can be obtained from the practice. Please contact us for more information.

The importance of Oral hygiene🦷

Oral health is the practice of keeping one's mouth clean and free of disease. Taking care of your gums, teeth, and mouth by brushing your teeth and flossing can prevent gum disease, tooth decay, and bad breath. Maintaining your dental hygiene can also prevent the occurrence of medical disorders by keeping the bacteria in your mouth under control and preventing oral infections.

Taking care of your oral health is a necessity. Neglecting oral hygiene can lead to cardiovascular disease, oral cancers, diabetes, a stroke, adverse pregnancy outcomes, lung conditions, and many more diseases. Since the mouth is the access to the human body, it is important that it is treated with the right care. This is why we urge our patients to keep up to date with at home intense cleaning. As well as up to date cleaning appointments with Elli. 😃

Dental bridge Vs Dental implant 🤔

We offer several ways to replace missing teeth, improving quality of life for eating, as well providing a natural smile. 😆

Two popular options for replacing missing teeth are Dental bridges and Dental implants. They differ in many different aspects.

Types of treatment:

A dental bridge, as the name implies, bridges the gap where a tooth once was. It involves replacing a missing tooth with a false tooth which is bonded to your natural teeth on either side of the gap. The diagram shows how a bridge is fitted.

An implant, on the other hand, consists of a titanium screw that’s fixed into your jawbone and topped with a replacement tooth, also known as a crown. It’s also possible to have an implant-supported bridge, which involves placing a bridge on top of implants to replace multiple missing teeth in a row.

Appearance and functionality:

Both dental bridges and implants can restore your natural smile, and both are discreet options for replacing missing teeth.

The implant itself, which is a titanium screw, won’t be visible as it’s placed in your jawbone. Your false tooth or teeth will be similar to the shape, shade and size of your other teeth, so they look natural and feel comfortable. The diagram shows how an implant is placed.

Visibility:

Dental bridges aren’t embedded beneath your gum, so there’s a chance that the structure of the bridge may be slightly visible behind or in between your replacement teeth, although your dentist will make the bridge look as natural as possible. It can take a little while to get used to the feeling of a bridge in your mouth, but after a while, they should begin to feel more comfortable.

Wear over time:

While implants can last as long as natural teeth if you look after them well, a dental bridge can weaken over time due to this pressure and the fact that the supporting teeth have been filed away. A dental bridge will eventually require restoration treatment, but you can ensure it lasts for many years by looking after it well.

Christmas Fact 7 🎄

Christmas Fact 3 🎄🤩

Did you know the first tooth brush was made from tree twigs? 😯😣 Most historians agree ancient Babylonians and Egyptians created the first 'toothbrushes' from frayed twigs between 3500-3000 B.C. We know this because ancient Egyptians meticulously preserved items in their tombs, including these "chew sticks." 🤔

Christmas Fact 2 🎄🤩

Did you know teeth aren’t bones? There is a high miss conception that teeth are the same than bones. Whilst teeth and bones might appear to be the same material at first glance, they’re actually quite different. Bones can repair and heal themselves, while teeth cannot. Teeth are more fragile in that respect, which is why it’s so important to practice good dental hygiene and see a dentist regularly. 😯
