NHS Dentistry crisis

Normally you come to us for help and advice. However now we are urgently asking for your help.

We need your support to allow us to return to something approaching normal NHS dentistry provision again.
Dentistry has been identified as a possible high-risk area for potential transmission of Covid-19. The dental profession has always strived to comply with all National Guidelines relevant to dental practice and especially those relating to cross infection control.

The new guidance for safe return to work during the current pandemic will involve not only significant changes to the level of PPE required for our team but also, and probably more significantly, a greater amount of surgery time to complete each treatment safely for all concerned.

In order for us to keep you, our staff and ourselves safe, we need the Department of Health to respond now. Two things that would greatly help with this are;

1. Access to free or affordable and consistent supplies of effective type 2 PPE that is suitable for use during drilling/filling and other aerosol generating procedures by 1st August 2020.

2. Financial support that takes into account the necessary significant fallow period required after each patient contact and the additional time for the environmental cleaning after this fallow period. This support must be in place for the duration of the requirement to comply with the new safety guidance procedures.

These two elements of support are vital to restart and sustain NHS dentistry.

*COVID-19 UPDATE*

Recent media reports suggest that dental services will open on monday 8th June. Since routine care was suspended for all dental services in March, we have been continuing to provide emergency dental care in the form of offering suitable advice, analgesics, antibiotics and if necessary, referring patients to urgent denntal centres for emergency aerosol generating procedures.

The recent correspondence notes that the only change to be additionally implemented from the 8th June to these current practices is that patients may have a need to be seen face to face before being referred to these urgent care centres.

As of yet, there is no definitive time frame for moving through the suggested phased approach to allow our safe return to routine dental care. We would like to reiterate the advice to ring the practice if you have a need for urgent or emergency treatment.

We want to thank all our patients for their ongoing support and understanding throughout this pandemic as we all negotiate through these challenging times.

Stay safe,
Armstrong Dental Practice

COVID 19(CORONAVIRUS)

Yesterday evening all dental practices were advised by the HSCB, that in the interests of public safety normal practice arrangements are not appropriate. It is no longer "Business as Usual"

For patients with a cough or fever they must not attend the practice instead they should telephone 111 to get advice on how to access the dental emergency service for Covid 19 patients in N Ireland.

For patient self isolating or that should be self isolating they should also not attend the practice, but instead phone us for advice.

The UK Government has also advised people aged 70 or older, 70 and under with underlying health conditions, and those who are pregnant to practice social distancing so unless you have a need for urgent and emergency care please keep safe and come and see us later in the year.

Advice has also been given on treatment.
We can no longer provide fillings, crowns etc, drills can only be used for urgent and emergency care.

We appreciate that the chances that the HSCB have recommended appear draconian, and we apologise for the difficulties they may cause but at this difficult time we have to do our best to keep you and the public safe and healthy.
