IMPORTANT NOTICE TO OUR PATIENTS ‼️
Dear patients.
We would like to inform you of upcoming changes to NHS dental services, following guidance from the Local Health board and the Welsh Government. These changes will come into effect from 1st April 2026.
The new NHS dental contract places a stronger emphasis on preventative care, with priority given to patients who have the greatest clinical need. The existing banded charging system will be replaced with personalised care plans.
Patients who pay NHS charges will notice a light increase in fees, and any applicable laboratory costs will need to be covered by the patient.
As part of these updates, dental practices must now ONLY accept new NHS patients through the Dental Access Portal. This system is managed by the local health board and operates as a central waiting list. Unfortunately, this means we are no longer able to register new NHS patients directly at the practice unless they are referred via this route.
We are also required to allocate appointments for urgent care to patients who do not currently have a regular dentist on certain days. These come directly from the health board. As a result, waiting times may increase, and routine checkups for patients with good oral health may be extended to intervals of up to 24 months.
Each year our NHS funding is fixed. Once this allocation has been fully used, non-urgent treatments may need to be postponed until April 2027.
We will continue to provide care for patients who have attended the practice within the last 3 years. If you have not been seen within this time, you will need to register via the Dental Access Portal. This does not necessarily mean the place you will be offered is at our practice.
Our reception team is always happy to help with any questions, and we thank you for your patience and understanding during this transition.
If your enquiry is non-urgent, we kindly ask you avoid calling before 9am in the mornings as this is when we take the emergency calls for the day.
We also operate a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of abuse towards our staff. Any inappropriate behaviour will result in removal from our NHS patient list.
We thank you all for your continued support.
