🦷 17 years in dentistry! 🦷
In August 2009, I walked into a dental practice for an interview as a receptionist with absolutely no idea what a dental nurse actually did… and somehow walked out as a trainee dental nurse. 😂
It definitely wasn’t the career I had planned at 15 - back then I was convinced I’d do an English degree followed by a PGCE - but life clearly had other ideas!
Over the years, dentistry has taken me through general practice, agency and locum nursing, specialist orthodontics and plenty of additional qualifications along the way. I was even offered a place to study Hygiene & Therapy before deciding at that time, that path wasn’t quite right for me.
Eventually, with a little encouragement from a friend, I took the leap into practice management - and I absolutely loved it.
I became a CQC Registered Manager, completed my Level 5 in Leadership & Management and went on to manage several practices, work with some incredible teams and successfully lead a practice through a CQC inspection. That chapter taught me SO much about dentistry, people and running a successful business.
But by Christmas 2025, I realised how much I missed actually nursing.
So I decided to take everything management had taught me and use it to build something of my own.
And Alexandra Clark Dental Nursing & Locum Support was born. 💙
The last 8 months have been an absolute whirlwind. I’m incredibly grateful to every practice that has trusted me to support their team and to all the brilliant people I’ve met along the way.
I genuinely loved being a Practice Manager - and I’d never say never to the right opportunity one day.
But I also really, really love being a dental nurse.
Right now, being back in surgery, running my own business and working with so many different practices feels exactly where I’m meant to be.
Here’s to 17 years in dentistry… and whatever the next 17 decide to throw at me! 🦷💙
